Add rule board in the new character area, update the arelith journal, and making new players read through a simple set of rules before they go in game.
Have something like this.
1. Be nice. Respect your fellow players and treat them the same way you'd like to be treated. Instead of acting out in game report them using the /dm channel or file a report on the forums.
2. Do not exploit. Arelith is a living server and with all of its features sometimes bugs are introduced. If you are aware of or suspect a bug - report it using the /dm channel or file a report on the forums. If you are found to be maliciously using bugs to your advantage you may be punished.
3. Do not be explicit. This server has the young, the old, and everything in between. It is forbidden to engage in sexual behavior of any kind on the server (or recruit people off of it) and will be punished with expulsion and permanent bans. Do not reference rape, child birth, pregnancy and do not reference controversial real life political, social, and racial issues in game or out of game. Report suspected violations using the /dm channel or file a report on the forums.
4. Remain in character. Respect the forgotten realms campaign setting (circa 1372 DR and the 3.5 Edition), ensure your characters have original names that do not overtly reference real life figures or famous fictional characters. Try always to deal with issues in how your character would deal with something and never deal with IC issues OOCly. Report suspected violations using the /dm channel or file a report on the forums.
5. Player versus Player (PvP) conduct should be fun. Violence and conflict can occur for many natural reasons but it should always remain in character. Do not ever engage in such things due to OOC grudges. When you have lost a PvP encounter respect death or the conclusion of the conflict by showing deference to the defeat and always keep it within the frame of a story. Report suspected violations using the /dm channel or file a report on the forums.
6. Be nice. Remember you are always playing with other people. Sometimes people are not at their best but as players you are under no obligation to go out of your way to correct or help another person. For those of you who feel uncomfortable just remember to report suspected violations using the /dm channel or file a report on the forums.
Something like this - kept simple, sweet, and to the point. Would go for miles.
