Rule Suggestion: Scrying

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:
- implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
- the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
- the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to tweak X class.

Rule Suggestion: Scrying

Post by caldura firebourne » Sun Sep 09, 2018 8:25 pm

Scrying is most often used as a hostile action, to spy on another character and learn their secrets and plans, the only counter to it is to be able to also scry yourself, or FOIG protections against such. Rarely does it culminate into RP for the person being scried, and more often than not leaves the person scrying untouchable for performing this action against another character.

I suggest Scrying to follow the same rules as pickpocketing, or breaking in and stealing an item from another character for these reasons, once per player per 24 hours unless otherwise permitted by the player being scried, because there are certainly some scenarios where scrying someone as a means to locate them to meet them happens.

I would also suggest scrying require the person doing so to correctly guess the targets attunement (life death fire water earth air) as this would require the person scrying to have actually been close enough to the target to interact with them at least once beforehand, and put enough thought into it to make note of their attunement rather than simply retrieving their name from a note, or another person. failing to correctly guess the attunement would result in a failed scry and loss of components.
