Examine Stats

Post by WanderingPoet » Sun Sep 09, 2018 5:59 pm

Currently we have 4 stats (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution and Charisma) which display when you examine, I think this works well.

They can show as Low, Average and High.

I propose that we add a Very High, and use the currently modified values.

Low: 0-9
Average: 10-18
High: 19-28
Very High: 27+

Using the currently modified values would mean that debuffs or buffs, and items, would affect the stats.

- Do you want to orate to the masses and look charismatic? Put on your nicest clothes and jewellery, use the bottle of perfume (eagle's splendour) and see your Average charisma become a High.
- Want to intimidate someone? Put on all your strength gear, pull out a big sword and cast bull's strength and go from High to Very High and look more threatening than before, even if you're still a pushover.

Mimic allows you to do this, of course, but only helps one way. At current you could be Average strength because you have a base of 16, but actually with buffs and items have 30 and be considerably stronger - a range of 10 to 30. High would have an even larger range, with a difference of 19 to 40.

Arguably if you're going out of your way to purchase spells/items to boost your attributes they should be reflected in how you're perceived. A fighter should be able to know that yes, that weak looking Low wizard you're talking to actually isn't Low (8 base, enchanted to 20), but is as strong as you (19/20 base, no enchantments) and you may not want to get into a fistfight.

Laughter, encouragement, play - not simply just for fools.
These tools reveal,
More is learned,
From another in an hour of play,
Than in a year of contention.
