Deep gnome racials are pretty limiting, especially for a race that should be illusionist friendly.
I'd suggest being allowed to swap -2 wisdom for +2 intelligence (and if you're generous, lose the dex for a con or even charisma bonus), like drow are able to do with their unique gifts.
