Mechanical Change: When a cleric rests to refresh their spells, they spend a fixed percentage of their Piety right then, rather than spending piety on each spell as it's cast.
Percentage can be an appropriately decided flat rate, or on a per spellslot basis.
RP Reason: Makes more sense than your god suddenly abandoning you and depriving you of the spells they already granted you during prayer/rest in mid-fight, moments after they intervene and save your life.
Execution Bonus: Less scripts to fire during spell-casting/combat (Piety no longer needs to adjust itself for each spell cast).
