Elemental Monoliths

After a certain point in epics (haven't gotten there yet, but I did the math) the ancient elemental outclasses the monolith significantly in AB, AC and HP, making this surge fairly useless once a wild mage is finally able to -fate it with a certain degree of success.

They also last turns/level (max 30 minutes) which is risky if you're trying to solo with one. EDIT: I may be wrong, but it certainly FEELS like turns/level.

Would it be too much to ask to have the monoliths scale with epic caster level in the same manner ancients do? Would it further be too much to ask to have the duration of the monoliths changed to hours/level (but only when -fated; random surges should remain turns/level)?

EDIT: just as a side note, a cool idea (to me) would be to make the other monolithic elemental surge (there are two in the table) a planar version (randomized, of course) to add a bit of variety. It would be very thematic for a wild mage to run around with a slaad, for instance.
