D&D Rangers Wilderness Survival

Post by Krivoklat » Sun Mar 26, 2017 2:01 am

Per 3rd edition D&D, Rangers are able to provide food and find fresh water for themselves and/or a number of traveling companions during wilderness travel:

First... Chance of Disease from drinking tainted water should have it's DC increased. It's great flavor to add, but after a certain level, it really becomes a non-issue since people's Fort Save gets so high, it's an almost auto-make saving throw. -Make the DC so high that even lvl 30's have at least a 50% chance of failing 'if' the diseased water proc's.

With the high rate of "antidote" flasks that drops, it really won't be an issue.

BUT, having a Ranger in your group greatly lessens these chances, as he/she can help you survive the perilous natural hazards of wilderness travel!!!!

Rangers lvl 10: Find-Fresh-Water. Through the use of a craftable "water skin" (Small Leather + tanning acid) a ranger of 10th level or above can fill the water-skin with up to 10-charges from any usable water-source (reusable). How to implement: a simple trigger area in/around the water-source that when the Ranger enters it, a floaty-text pops up saying you've found a source of fresh water. Then using the water'skin, creates an invisible object that when waterskin is clicked, it can then target the invisible object by the ranger, which would 'fill' the water-skin. -Canteen can be given to non-ranger PC's but when it's charges are expended.. it's useless (unless it is given back to the Ranger to re-fill.) Multiple Rangers could use the invisible object once spawned, provided the Ranger that triggered it still stands within the Trigger.

Ranger lvl 15: No-Salt-Ration. Rangers of lvl 15+ can create food ration without the need for SALT. Can substitute either 1 fruit, 1 nut or 1 berry for "salt" as an ingredient when creating a ration from the cooking crafting menu. Carrying all those food-rations around for the Ranger becomes a non-issue, Especially since finding nut/berry/fruit from plants is so easy. -Expert Survivalists!

Ranger lvl 20: Find-fresh-water/party. When a Ranger of 20th+ level is in your party, any party member's use of a water-source has the chance for disease dropped to 0%. This represents the Ranger's ability to locate the 'fresh' source of water to drink. -same as the lvl 10 water-skin, where on-enter of a trigger, the floaty-text appears saying the Ranger has found fresh water supply. -Party members drinking from that source (while the Ranger is standing inside the trigger) disables the disease.
