What Class and Race is in your opinion Merlin the Mage?

I am wondering... Merlin Camarthen, that Welshman from old age celtic/medieval myths in Britain, that supported the efforts of that other myth: the King Arthur Pendragon...

What class/es and race do you think he could be in a D&D world?

RACE:

Depending the resource, he is told to be half fey (half-elf?) or half demon (tiflin?) but he has not demonic marks... Or could be just a human.

CLASS:

The myth says he was a druid 8druids come from the Celtic Culture, and from there were taken by D&D), but he is also called "The Mage" and made the archetype for characters as gandalf the Mage and Elminster (who also seems like Gandalf)...

Wizard-Druid?
Sorceror-Druid?
Sorceror?
Pure wizard?
Some bard levels too? (Those who learnt to become druids, required in te real history 21 years of study, and one of the first ranks were Bards (storytellers and capable to sing for amusement too)

Stephen Lawhead in his trilogy, makes a Merlin that is a bit of bard, a bit of druid and a much of mage.

Opinions?

In the show :Merlin, he is a sorcerer / human descendant of Dragons, or something like that.

the real tales never placed him as descendant of dragons...

There is an episode on the Arthurian Cycle where Uther Pendragon has a dream with two dragons that ruins the castle that he is in real trying to build but that ends every day ruined... One is white, the other is red... Merlin decypher the dream explaining that the Saxon (red dragon) is about defeat the white dragon (britains)...

Other tradition/books say that the Dragon symbolices the energies of the Earth (respected and recogniced by the old druids)... So being related to the Dragon could be meaning that you are a creature born from the energies of the Earth... The Blood of Dragon. This concept is sidely used in the movie Excalibur.

I often think of him as a druid :) But there are so many interpretations of Merlin over the years that anything works really.

Merlin is a human Wizard-Chronomancer, with obnoxious amounts of wisdom.

Or a Vorlon.
