Bluff, whats it do?
So, other than the obvious disguise function.
I'm curious as to how people use bluff as far as RP? How do you potray you characters skills at lying the 10, 20, 30 skill point bench marks?
Also, what could be used to counter Bluff in that sense?

Re: Bluff, whats it do?
Bluff could represent how well one hides one's motivations. So with a respectable bluff skill, fitting into a group which you wouldn't naturally would come easier.
Wisdom and Charisma in combination I think would best represent someone who sees through lies. (For insight into truth on the one hand, and personal behaviour and motivations on the other).

Re: Bluff, whats it do?
For seeing past a bluff or lie, the pen-and-paper SRD equivalent is the Wisdom-based Sense Motive skill. Contrast this to a Persuade roll, which is actually countered with an opposing Persuade roll.
In comparison, the *looks* emote counters a -disguise and according to Arelith Wiki is either based on Wisdom modifier and character level, or the Spot skill (I presume it's the latter).
Persuade reflects how two or more people try to win an argument and is often tougher to pull off, whereas Bluff is simply a quick or elaborate lie that usually has greater consequences if noticed.
My preference for NWN is the victim roll Listen or Persuade first, whenever they suspect the other is Bluffing or needs to provide a better Persuade argument. Ties go to the non-victim.
Participants might also want to add situational modifiers on some of the skill checks, and/or avoid d20 rolls by simply comparing their opposing skills (or WISmod+level if higher) to speed things up.

It's based on both in a sense. In comparison, the *looks* emote counters a -disguise and according to Arelith Wiki is either based on Wisdom modifier and character level, or the Spot skill (I presume it's the latter).
"Accuracy" of looks is based on WIS + CharLevel.
Beating disguise is based on Spot + d20 (vs. target's Bluff + d20).
Re: Bluff, whats it do?
Bluff also has another secret IG mechanic. Surprised it wasn't listed here
Re: Bluff, whats it do?

I have to admit I really don't get the point of hiding game mechanics.
FOIG is useful and necessary for a lot of things, but I at least think
we shouldn't be hiding "mechanics" from people.

agree
mechanics are to be known or otherway we are being elitist, allowing advantage on build chapter to the veterans who already noticed.
I see no reason to extend advantages on those things concerning mechanics.

The mechanics of it is that you can ~bluff~ your way into places on the server you could not normally access. The foig part is the where(s).

Then all is fine as the "where" is not a mechanic itself.grip wrote:The mechanics of it is that you can ~bluff~ your way into places on the server you could not normally access. The foig part is the where(s).
If we may know all the wheres without the need to explore, the fun of discoveries will get ruined.
Yes, that is a FOIGable thing.

Well, if that's the case, bluff also changes the accuracy of your stats, when someone uses looks on you. See that accuracy -19 or what ever number.. shows how wrong it is, due to bluff. So, it would say I have very low discipline, while it's actually quite high. As an example
