Turn up the light.

Is there a way to make NWN lighter?

Even with a light spell I still have to narrow my eyes at the screen and lean forward to see into the dark.
Yes, Some places are ment to be dark, But it's bad for your eyes, eh?

So, Any contrast adjust or override?

Would adjusting the settings on your monitor help at all?

I believe Beamdog has specifically made the game darker. You used to be able to change the gamma but then that was removed too.

Also dim lights are only tiring to the eyes, not bad or damaging. (https://www.health.harvard.edu/healthbe ... your-sight)

You can still change the game gamma in the config. I don't remember where, but it was talked about in a thread somewhere.

From steam forum:
"You can type `Gamma x` in the console, where x is a floating point value larger than 0. The default is 2.2. This value is persisted to nwn.ini (under a new configuration key). Gamma only affects the rendered ingame scenery, not menus or UI, as it is applied through a FBO shader, not GL/system-wide gamma correction. "

The above is very useful. The game did get darker in EE, and with the loss of the slider Arelith suddenly got a lot darker. Not much I can do from this end but revisit every area.

(Also to see Arelith as it was intended, don't play with vibrance turned on if you can help it, and check 'hide second story tiles' to NEVER)

Thanks to EE we can now use shaders.
Both of these were made by DM Symphony, but I had edited the strengths of them to fit what I wanted.
There's one that makes the game lighter.

This shader will increase brightness without washing out the color like excessively high Gamma can do.
If this doesn't make it bright enough, increase this number; it does accept decimals and you'll probably need to use them.

Download Link
Stick it in your override folder, and enable High Contrast in the advanced video options in game.

An extreme end comparison of high gamma vs a very high setting on the shader(set to 2)
High gamma on the left, shader on the right.

When you get to settings this high with the shader, it does start to become best to use a blend of both it and gamma.
Example of using both: Shader set to 2, gamma on 1.7
This is higher than you'll want, but serves as a good demonstration of how bright it's able to go.

Off topic, but I also currently use a modified Vibrance setting that is inbetween base NWN and the new Vibrance option, since I felt Beamdog went a bit overboard on the saturation but I wanted a little more color. Here's the link for the weakened vibrancy, in case anyone is interested in that.
Stick in override and enable vibrancy in game to use.

I can try to dig up Symphony's forum thread with the originals he made if wanted, but it was easier to just upload the edited ones I had on hand.

Did something change with the shader recently. I last played on Wednesday, but when I logged in today, everything was much brighter, but not in a good way, all the pure blacks were greys for example. Any advice?

Yeah it looks a lot different now my characters cloak is always in shadow.
I suppose this should be in the bug forum.

Arelith is so much more impressive with the second story tiles off. I understand that it might be hard to see sometimes, but thankfully in a near future update of NWN we'll have a similar system as with the Android, where it only hides a blob of where your character is, so you can see through to it.

My issue seems to be fixed now, was probably just something weird with my monitor. Symphony has more info about the cloaks thing, but I will let him share it if he chooses to.
