Can you use Crowd Control abilities/spells without RP?

Post by Rooshi49 » Tue Oct 23, 2018 1:09 am

Can you use CC (Crowd Control) on someone without RP? I thought that wasn't allowed . . . But I'm reading alot of posts that suggest eitherwise. As far as I can tell thats a hostile action, and requires interactive RP before you can use it. But hey. I might be wrong here.

Examples: Web, grease, etc . .

If it mechanically affects them, it's PvP.

TRM is correct. I'm assuming you're referring to this?

Give your warning, and if you see them activate something, use an object or spell that casts a hostile effect on the ground. Web is useful for this as it isn't entirely "hostile" (It still counts as a hostile action).
Miaou does note that using a CC ability/spell still counts as a hostile action, i.e. as initiating PvP. It's just slightly less hostile than, say, smacking them in the face. It MIGHT be possible to continue RP after chucking a Web or other CC at someone, whereas its very unlikely that there will be much talking after a damaging attack.

The simple answer is no PvP must be interactively rp'ed.
So you RP
They RP
Combat.

I must admit, when someone turns around after some RP and tries to run I'll try to cast hold person on them because I don't have time to hostile them.

That's probably not a huge problem, since they're arguably exploiting the rules to force you to waste time hostiling before you can respond. However, I find it's best to go mechanically hostile as soon as you have the first inkling the situation might go bad. That could even be at the first moment you see someone, if you've had negative interactions before. Going hostile doesn't mean you have to fight. It's just an indicator to other players that it's not tea and crumpets time.
