Build Advice

Post by UGrabMyDrumstick » Mon Jan 12, 2015 12:20 am

Need solid ideas for a big dumb bruiser type:

- Neutral-aligned (generally too stupid and easily-manipulated to be good or evil)
- Not magical, not particularly religious
- Really good at giving and receiving damage
- Don't have a weapon preference, but something big and intimidating is more in-character.
- It's totally fine to have intelligence-related weaknesses; he's built to just be a damage machine for parties, not a one-man army.

Bonus points for unique twists on this idea.

Can't go wrong with a 20 fighter 7 WM 3 rogue, kensai if you want to be completely un-magical.

Could toy with 15 barbarian, 12 fighter, 3 rogue, or something of the sorts. Just enough CON to get epic DR, everything else into STR.

If you go for Kensai I don't see the need for rogue, just go 30 fighter for +6 enchantment and AC bonus!

Battleaxe or dwarven waraxe, maybe bastard sword as you'll want to hold a shield.
At level 30 towershield will give you +9 ac and fullplate will give you +14 ac, also helmet will give you +6 ac.

Half-Orc pure Fighter.

18 STR, 12 DEX, 16 CON, 10 WIS, 10 INT, 6 CHA at creation.

By the end, with your enchanted gear, you should end up with something like 36STR/26CON for 540HP, 44AB, 40AC, and +13/19DMG.

Enchant everything you wear with STR, CON, Discipline, and Saves, because you get free AB/AC. :D

Take Exotic Proficiency and use a Bastard Sword or Dwarven Waraxe, with a Tower Shield. Better for defense, but also another place to pour on more enchantments.

Oh, and Improved Power Attack. But I think that was already a given.

Kensai's an option, but... ick. You don't want to be that jerk who can't use a res scroll.

Make friends with a high Perform Bard. He's a glory seeker, and he likes to have his Minstrel follow him around and sing about his exploits, even though he doesn't understand half of the lyrics. One day, he hopes to win the heart of an Elven maiden, but first he has to go on a quest to seek a fabled great and powerful wizard who can help him take his foot out of his mouth.

Pure half-orc barbarian. With gifts you'll be able to take Epic DR and all the epic rages including Mighty Rage reducing your reliance on gear for str and con.

Save yourself the headaches, don't do Kensai.

Fighter 12/Dwarven Defender 14/Ranger 4
Doesn't need to be ranger, but that seemed like the best 4 level character-appropriate dip to take. Give him Favored Enemy (Elf) and make him super racist. Pick the boar as a pet for a drinking buddy/general shinnanigans.

Barbarian 16/Fighter 10/Ranger 4
Same thing as the above, except that you don't have to be a dwarf, or lawful, and you get rage.

Barbarian 15/WM 7/Fighter-or-CoT 8
For the high-damage variety

Fighter 30 for that +6 YOLO Swag

Agree with dragoneye here. Fisherman fighter 30 with dual +6 fishs.

Half-Orc: Fisherman Fighter 30
Starting Attributes:
STR 20 +2gift +All bonus attributes here
DEX 15
CON 14
Don't need the rest. You fish, you eat, you sell fish, you drink. Simple.

Ambidexterity, Two-weapon Fight, Improved Two-Weapon Fight
Improved Parry, Skill Focus: Parry and Epic Skill Focus: Parry
Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Epic Weapon Focus and Epic Weapon Specialization: Fish (club)

Final STR with full buff:
22+7+12+1 (Greater STR I) = 42 (+16)

Final AB:
25+16+6+4-2 = +49/+49/+44/+44/+39/+34

Final Damage:
+3 (1d6 average rounded down)
+6 (Enhantment)
+6 (Specializations)
+4 (Essences)
+12 (+16 main hand, +8 off hand, 24 total, 12 average)
TOTAL: 31 per hit

*runs away*

Half Orc Ranger 21/Fighter 4/Barbarian 5. Pick up taunt on the barb levels, go strength based and dual wield axes. Pick up bane of enemies, and you should be doing some fairly silly damage. High con should be fairly feasible, plus some con gear and you should have enough HP to take your share of lumps. Hide/MS would also be hilarious for being a giant wall of muscle who's super stealthy.

You're right. Participating in the forums was a mistake. Won't do this again.

How about 25 monk 5 shadowdancer dex/wis?
Lots of SR, DR, AC, epic dodge, speed buff, spam KD, very powerful stunning fist, virtually impossible to beat the will, 50% concealment, good to-hit and DPR. Perma-flurry, resulting in 6 attacks per round.
Against fighter types you can just spin around a spam a bow.
Against a mage, 35 SR will block quite a bit, plus immunity to mind spells and other sweets.
Eh?

Random idea.

Since your INT is going to be low and you'll probably have a few feats to burn, i'd suggest investing a feat or two in initiative feats (thug, bloodied, improved initative). Since the best defense is a good offense at times, getting in the first knockdown powered blow before your opponent can even react can dramatically alter how a fight will go.

In NWN initiative is somewhat... pointsless. If you micro well, initiative won't play a big role.
