Monster Races - color choosing

Post by GoboJenkins » Tue May 22, 2018 12:42 pm

I imagine this would take some epic coding skills to make the skins color-able but now that beamdog has cracked the code open, what would it take? Of course I can imagine spotted and striped variations of Gnolls, Kobolds, and Gobos. Any thoughts or rumors? Along these same lines I have always hoped to get dobby (insert small monster race) some new cloths. What are the chances? Thanks for humoring me.

Better than that, has been merely to apply the dynamic model to monstrous models, so they would behave exactly as player models would.
This is no black magic mumbo jumbo; there have been HAKs implemented for this a long time ago. But Arelith has ever since remained no-HAK, so we are unlikely to see anything of this unless:
A) Arelith goes full HAKs.
B) Beamdog enables by default dynamic models on monstrous races.

I thought this was confirmed for the future

Interestingly, it looks like Beamdog has~ opened up playable monster races. Whether they'll be dynamic or not I don't know.

Huh. That's actually cool.
I wonder how it'll affect us.

They mentioned something about it in last stream

http://blog.beamdog.com/2018/05/may-18- ... recap.html

Development build 8172 for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is now available in the Beamdog Client and on Steam. The race selection UI in character generation is now a list (instead of pre-defined buttons) just like class selection. Races can now have an icon; defined in the new “Icon” column in racialtypes.2da. This is up to custom content, as we do not currently ship icons for the builtin races. Check out the full list of features and fixes here.

The coloring coming up is mostly just tinting as I understand it and it affects armor as well? We'll see once it goes live maybe we can do some cool stuff with it. But yes, preferably, when and if, Beamdog adds monster models much like PC models we'll just move over to that.
