Console commands 'Not Found'

Do I need to do something to activate the console commands? Everything I try returns [function 'x' not found]. I am trying to -delete_character as I was unaware of the 'You must take 3 levels in your main class before multiclassing' rule and I need to change my build. Thank you for any help.

You type them in the bar at the bottom of the screen; same place where you type as if you're sending a message to another PC.

You don't type them in the yellow menu that comes up in the upper left by pressing `.
