Wild elf -Track command

Post by Drake Strongfist » Fri Mar 09, 2018 7:16 pm

So as it is, wild elves can -track, which is a neat rp tool (can see monster types and population balance), but they can't look at tracks to see PC's that pass. Is this intentional? Is it a code limitation? It was just a little weird the other day when someone I was with was late to meet friends. "They've likely already left and I don't know which way."

I thought "SWEET! I get to rp my tracking"

Yeah not so much. Just curious if this is a hard code limitation or if I could whine about it in the suggestion forum.

It's intentional and not based on any technical limitation.

When this was asked before, the developer response was that -track on those subraces is meant to be a small perk for nature-based subraces, and that reading PC tracks was too big a benefit to simply give out for free to some subraces.

Piggybacking here. What if you have Ranger levels AND are one of the races that get -track? Does that make your tracking skills are better than a non-tracking-race Ranger?

I doubt it. The only way I could see it happening is if somehow the script adds your ranger levels to your total wild elf level for the purposes of -track. That would just make you max out your effectiveness at a lower level though, not make you stronger in the end.

I don't remember -track getting much better after level 10 or so though, so it's a minor thing either way.

Too big a....huh? "unarmored elf" is hardly a game breaking cookie.

I feel like this is "old arelith" way of thinking.

But "unarmored kobold, unarmored drow, armored orog" is pretty important.

Tracking tracks is incredibly powerful if you know how to use it, you can use them to track a foe across the server if they're walking! It is also handy if you go ahead scouting and then need to find your friends afterwards.
