Pirates and UD races
I feel inclined to ask, given its a nest of piracy and all that.... are there restrictions against UD races from being pirates as well? (Also considering that pirate island not far away that is entirely populated by monster pirates)
Plays: Durvayas(deleted), Marco(deleted), Hounynrae(NPC), Sinithra Auvry'ndal(rolled), Rauvlin Barrith(Active), Madeline Clavelle(Shelved)

Underdark races cannot sign the Sencliff Pirate Articles, but outcasts and slaves can.Durvayas wrote:I feel inclined to ask, given its a nest of piracy and all that.... are there restrictions against UD races from being pirates as well? Re: Pirates
So, unlike before, its now impossible for UD races to engage in piracy unless using the dreadnaught? Or are they still able to be part of pirate crews run by other PCs? I'm not fully understanding the mechanical limitations of what can and can't be done now, particularly in regards to the ships, by comparison to before.

You can't get a Pirate Writ. You can't do Pirate quests. You can't get the Pirate tattoos. You can't own property on Sencliff. These things are all tied.

But most importantly... we CAN board the ships with other PCs right? We don't get the juicy benefits, but we can participate at least?

There's nothing stopping you from being in a party with a Pirate PC and just, playing with them and beating up fools together. But questlines and being autonomously pirate-y isn't possible. Though I'm not sure if you can rent the Liberator/Wharftown Warship without being a pirate. Pretty sure you can't.

Re: Pirates and UD races
Nothing suggests to me that UD characters can't participate in piracy in exactly the same way they were able to before this system was put into place... they just can't use this specific system.
An analogy would be to say something like: "Can characters no longer assassinate people without assassin levels?" Of course they can still assassinate people, just not via the assassin guild system put in place.

I kinda wish I could make my ogre into a pirate.

Honestly, I'd have nothing against it.

Lets hope it will drain humans away from Andunor!

Re: Pirates and UD races
If anything, I suspect pirates will just be a brand of character squinted at in the underdark, but one that ultimately no one really bothers with. 'Cause hey, it's the UD, and that's okay. I ain't even being sarcastic, I think it's totally fitting.
For that same reason though, UD'ers definitely ought to be able to achieve piratedom as well.

Re: Pirates and UD races
Don't know why there are arguments for 'Yay UDers on the surface doing surface things!', if you want to be a pirate, use something that fits?
RP only starts at 30 if you're a coward.

It's weird to see 'let's put UDers on the surface to play with surface toys' posts after the seventy kajillion 'keep humans out of the UD Andunor is Menzoberanzan' posts.

Im only in favor of it, because Pirates don't care WHO they associate with, at all.

Yes, I am a bloodthirsty pirate who has no qualms with plunder, pillaging, murdering innocent women and children...but I care if there's a drow on my ship cause they might be more evil then me?

I mean. Yes? 'I'd love to be out at sea with a member of a race and culture reknowned on several planes for backstabbing their allies for basically no reason' isn't smart sailing

Re: Pirates and UD races
How about all the thread posts and comments by Dev's about how the UD is not Menzo, but instead, more akin to Skullport? Seems a lil funny to nitpick past posts about the topic when it's been made clear by the Dev's, along with being visible in the present in-game paradigm.
I mean, you've got open Sharran worship for drow? The server has come a long way from the Menzo mindset; to its benefit. It's been healthy changes.
This pirate stuff seems like it ought to naturally follow suite. Not sure why it should matter which races are allowed to be a pirate. Especially since monster races are routinely depicted as such.

Re: Pirates and UD races
I mean, UD Monsters already get the awesomest pirate ship, frankly if someone who owned the Dreadnaught wanted to sail with a Sencliff fleet, Sencliff would probably be grateful "Probably"
sure we monsters won't get the pirate quests and the prestige that comes with it like tattoos that depict us as evil marauders
but we're monsters, we never needed the tattoos anyway, just look at our teeth?

I am against letting LITERAL MONSTERS buy stuff/participate in pirate stuff mechanically.

And it gets them killed every time
That said I wouldn't be surprised if there was (more) cool stuff on the way for UDers anyway. Take this opportunity to roll a new dude while you wait, you career drow people, you
