Crafting XP

How does this work? I know I get 10xp x DC for finishing a production, but the system seems to give out this bonus entirely at random. Sometimes I get xp, and sometimes I don't, and there's no discernible pattern.

First time completion of a specific craft only. Only once for, say, iron longsword.

You also have to be the only one to put crafting points into the recipe.
