Making characters to stay on the vault
Would it be frowned upon making a character you had an idea off just to have him/her ready when you feel like it's a good time for them, but keeping them in the vault without being played for some time?

Re: Making characters to stay on the vault
I know some people have like 50 characters in their vault. Go for it.

No where does it say you cannot have characters lingering. It isn't causing any harm.

Re: Making characters to stay on the vault
It may be seen as distasteful to keep your character in the vault and pop them for a super event once in the year and then shelf them again. Equally, there's a lot of people that don't care.
Like many other things in our community, everybody reacts differently to it.

Yeah if someone has personal issue with that, that's on them.
Re: Making characters to stay on the vault
Not the worst idea to hedge your bets in case classes or races get discontinued in the future. I wish I would have held on to a Weave Master I made, then deleted and intended to remake right before they were discontinued!
Other than that I don't think anyone would notice or care that much.

Re: Making characters to stay on the vault
Well there is a difference between what the orginial poster asked and making characters simply to pop in only at certain event or occasions. I know characters who only job is to appear during an election, which drives me mad. But nothing wrong with making 5 characters with the intent of playing them sometime down the road.

I like to keep a character around of each build/path when things go in, so if I decide to level something I have available to me a pre-nerf spellsword, weave master, etc.

Exemplary behaviour inducing our old "this is why we can't have nice things"BegoneThoth wrote:I like to keep a character around of each build/path when things go in, so if I decide to level something I have available to me a pre-nerf spellsword, weave master, etc.
Like a lax 'grandfathering is ok in some cases' policy for people who are actually invested in their characters, which would be hit hard by a nerf.
Suddenly everyone's smiling.

chill out, man
is it really so awful and terrible just to want to play a weavemaster?

Wouldn't the sepllsword get nerfed as soon as you log in?BegoneThoth wrote:I like to keep a character around of each build/path when things go in, so if I decide to level something I have available to me a pre-nerf spellsword, weave master, etc.

But when things get added or changed I bang out a build real quick and make the level 1 character. No reason not to as when/if it gets changed back you 9/10 just get to keep it.Iceborn wrote:See: Grandfathering.
I know I'm not alone in this.

I made a favored soul when I found out they were going to be pulled, because I found the concept to be intriguing. With The Sky Below My Feet wrote:Exemplary behaviour inducing our old "this is why we can't have nice things"BegoneThoth wrote:I like to keep a character around of each build/path when things go in, so if I decide to level something I have available to me a pre-nerf spellsword, weave master, etc.

Unless an admin/dev/DM is going to condemn this gesture (which seems unlikely), can we get a lock before it gets any saltier in here?

How would anyone even figure out you're doing this/who the hell would ever care except this one person? Do you.

How is it that we manage to turn the most basic and innocent questions into... THIS?

A good question, Baron.
