Hellball Backlash
So with Hellball: Damage type changed to Divine, Magical, Negative and Positive. Has no saving throw. Will not damage the environment (placeables, etc). Casters without Epic Evocation Focus will take 30d6 as backlash damage when casting.
I assume the backlash damage is split between divine. neg, pos , and magical?
Is there anything that gives one magical defensive res?

Re: Hellball Backlash
I'm pretty sure it's just a magical damage backlash. No other damage types.
Re: Hellball Backlash
So any chance of magical defensive essence appearing? =)
After testing it out on some poor goblins it splits it over the four things. But if shifted I guess any defensive essences don't get applied.

Re: Hellball Backlash
depends on the shifting your doing.
Only magical properties of armor, helmet and shield merge into wild shape. (druid)
shifter have a lot of shape specific merge rules.
the lvl 9 spell Shapechange merge none
i guess you might be able to get divine. neg, pos protective essences on those 3 items if druid. iam not really sure thought.

Re: Hellball Backlash
Or drink a NEP potion to negate a fourth of the damage.
Re: Hellball Backlash
Probably not. A 5/- magical resistance essence would negate magic missile entirely, reduce a ILMS from 35 average damage to only 1.67 (you only take damage when an individual missile rolls a 6, so most get soaked totally), and reduce IGMS from 70 average damage to 20. More importantly, the 1-per-round damage that you take when dying (between 0 and -9 HP) is magical, so even 1/- magic resistance would negate bleeding out. Also, whenever you log out at less than 100% HP, then log back in, you take magical damage to bring you back down to the HP you had before--that might also be resisted by a magical resistance property, which would allow someone to heal themselves up just by logging in and out repeatedly.Sab1 wrote:So any chance of magical defensive essence appearing? =)

Re: Hellball Backlash
Wow I never knew some of that was magical damage or that 1 or even 5 res could have such a big impact.

Re: Hellball Backlash
The Backlash from Hellball is MAGICAL damage type - I checked the code.
There is no resistance to it available and there will be never added one for the reasons outlined by Lorkas.

Re: Hellball Backlash
On my damage log it breaks it down into the four types.
Re: Hellball Backlash
There is a defense from it.
It is called epic spell focus: evocation

Re: Hellball Backlash
Where is the fun in that? Adds to the fun of the spell.
Re: Hellball Backlash
Well asking for way to counter bcklash seems to me like seeking a way to bypass penalty for lacking a feat which was put onto spell on purpose...
Re: Hellball Backlash
I never asked for a way to counter or stop backlash. Even if there was a 5 res magic essence ig, it will hardly bypass the penalty, not like it would make one walk out untouched. But since 3 of the 4 things there are defenses for, I was curious if there was a defense for magic and the type of damage you received. I took the feat fully knowing there would be damage.flower wrote:Well asking for way to counter bcklash seems to me like seeking a way to bypass penalty for lacking a feat which was put onto spell on purpose...
