Occasionally, conversations have been known to glitch out. What you're seeing are the menu options of another character.
Don't worry, you're probably not doomed.

Mark of Destiny gives bonus XP on hour tick, check that you don't have more than Adventure and RPR
Also, i don't think the conversations actually can give MoD anymore, it's a DM thing

You don't have one. Someone was just going through that conversation at the same time you were going through a conversation. This happens all of the time with crafting, portals, NPC convos, etc.
RP only starts at 30 if you're a coward.

Look in your inventory. You receive an item called "Mark of Destiny" when you become a MoD character.

No extra items, no extra exp on tick, think I'm safe. Thanks everyone
(Still scared me when it came up...)

Mark of Destiny require DMs to place said item in your inventory. The option in character creation was removed; even though the dialogue remains.
So you shouldn't get it even if the options glitch out on display where you see someone's dialogue.

Reminds me of the time I portaled somewhere and got someone's entire love confession. It was weird.

Whawhat?
My first character on Arelith since I saw the Beamdog play through and I selected MOD because I love a challenge and I like the idea of its consequential finality for poor decisions. So I’ve been tip toeing about with my Fighter learning the environment, made it so far to level 8 no deaths and now this thread seems to indicate I did it all for nought? I could say oh so many things about this, but I guess I’ll just settle with...’bugger’
And can this situation be rectified by any chance. I do have a character item in my inventory, thought that was it but that must just be for the fighter stuff.

You should be able to get it if you ask a DM or some such.
