Feylock issues?
I've been planning on playing a Fey-pact warlock, but I keep hearing the class is buggy as all hell and borderline unplayable. However nobody will give me any specifics at all beyond a vague 'its buggy.'
What's the deal? Is the class good? Bugged? What do I need to watch out for? I really don't want to wait until level 20+ to encounter a serious 'bug' that hampers the class.

Weird buggyness when used as a multiclass for other cast classes.
Shadow summons do not work properly (i.e. no scaling).
Those are the ones I know off off-hand.
The class is... okay.

Woof. Slated for a fix, or no?
Clerics are just socially acceptable warlocks. The devil does not need any more advocates
Re: Feylock issues?
Sometimes the -arcane spell failure doesn't properly apply to armor, usually after a death or polymorph or something. Can just requip to fix that.
Dominate Person (all dominate/animal empathy) can be buggy when using the tool to command them.
For non bugs, you'll now choose between dealing damage or CCing targets as most of the best CC spells do vastly reduced damage. Though you do still have some CC spells that deal full damage. Against high save or just immune targets your best bet is just to reduce their HP to zero. A fiend lock can burn half a round to toss out a single darkness in PvE to have decent saveless CC, proceed to blast for full damage, and have their pet go on a rampage.
Thanks to full UMD and specific "bard" NPCs feylocks can cover for any weaknesses as far as soloing goes and in a group their kit can deal damage or CC from afar with some good short duration buffs.

Haven't the foggiest.
This one was SM's project. I haven't been all that active as a dev for some time now.

Ok, that's not too bad and the multiclass thing isn't going to hit me.Peppermint wrote:Weird buggyness when used as a multiclass for other cast classes.

Re: Feylock issues?
Has the issue regarding Shadow summon scaling been fixed? I am considering Illusion foci on my feylock, so it would be important to know.
Re: Feylock issues?
Is the no scaling of the Feylock summons specifically an issue with the Illusion focus or don't they scale according to CL either?

Re: Feylock issues?
Yesterday I’ve had the opportunity to test said shadow summons.
The issue is that they do not gain extra AB according to the feylock’s CHA bonus.
That results in their AB being incredibly low. This and the short duration basically make any feat investment to imbue those shadows rather unnecessary.

Re: Feylock issues?
Honestly feylocks have a lot of other cool stuff going for them, so I wouldn't view the shadows or the multiclassing problem as terribly crippling (though obviously if it could be fixed, that would be great).
Rolled: Helene d'Arque, Sara Lyonall
Shelved: Kels Vetian, Cin ys'Andalis, Saul Haidt
Playing: Oshe Jordain
