goblin speak 101

Post by Azensor » Mon Nov 06, 2017 3:18 am

decided to roll a goblin rogue, for the laughs mainly, and looked on the forums and found a few snippets here and there of how a goblin speaks but wanted to just ask if anyone could give me some solid advice on how a goblin speaks

Goblins do not speak. They only ever use sidestep keys and voice emotes.

It depends on the amount of exposure your goblin has had to varying languages. For example:

His Goblin is probably as perfect as perfect gets, barring any dialect or accent by clan or area.

His Common will probably be rough, lots of plurals where there don't need to be any, just a general "off" tinge to the pronunciation.

As for Undercommon, that depends on how well you want your goblin to have acclimated to Andunor. A Goblin born and raised, will probably have perfectly fluent Undercommon. A newly arrived goblin will probably struggle with it; his speech will probably be broken and weird.

Most important is that your character don't necessarily need to speak the same in every language.

Also, worship Maglubiyet because he's the superior goblin deity.

+1 to what gilescorey said. What a day when his is the helpful post. :)

Some might depend on intelligence too. An 18 intelligence goblin is probably way more likely to be well spoken in a language than an 8 int one. The desire for expertise not withstanding a 14 intelligence goblin is more intelligent than the average member of pretty much any PC race (average score of 10+race mod). They might choose to act in a manner to reduce the wariness of a target while they empty their pockets but it would be an act.
