Autotranslate Lore Check
Something's odd with the check.
I have a character with a flat 40 lore score, which is supposed to be -just- enough to always beat the DC 41 of the autotranslate check, but I still occasionally see lines that fail to translate.
Based on what we have written, everything but lore in gear is supposed to apply toward the gear, so ranks + int gear + plus fox cunning + base int modifier should all classify for the check.
Am I missing something here?

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
I have encountered exactly the same problem, recently. Lore 40 (Ranks + base Int modifier + Int gear + Fox Cunning) and I still occasionally fail to translate some lines.

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
it used to be an issue with languages in general that it would not translate all even if you was fluent in the language. sometimes it'd skip some lines. i don't know if that's still the case after the language update by scholar midnight tho.

In theory that was fixed, and I haven't seen that happen since then...

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
I have no quote on this, but on our old forums Mith had said that 41 Lore is required for 100% success. I do not recall why, though hopefully he will see this and explain why. But I had this issues several years ago too and was informed that I needed 41 lore (without gear), not 40 lore.
Once I bumped it up to 41...never missed a translation again, except for when things were wonky.
Of course, if the Devs have changed anything...then this response is useless!

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
I'll just up the lore to 41 next level and state that the DC is actually 42 in the wiki, then...
And we'll see if it keeps happening.

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
I have a character with well above 50 lore and it keeps happening. I always assumed it's because I've been rolling ones.

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
I had a wizard a while back with 45+ lore who consistently saw failures to translate across every language but common. It seemed to be fairly close to the 1 in 20 one would expect from auto failing one rolls, despite the wiki saying that 1 is not an auto failure.
Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
My assumption is that at some point, the system stopped counting soft int lore bonuses. It's been like this for a while, but it wasn't always. I had intended to report this at some point.

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
Back when I was with monkbold I had no soft lore at all, and consistently translated without failure exactly at 40 lore, I think, though my memory may be a little rusted.

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
The wizard of mine I referenced earlier had the 45+ without any soft bonuses. Full investment and 14 int bonus. Still failed around 5%ish of checks.
Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
Then I got nothin'.
Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
This is weird because my last character had exactly 40 Lore (from the listed sources, so not gear) and he had that for a very very long time and I never saw a failure, not even once. It worked perfectly for me.
Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
It might be that INT bonuses from gear don't count. I know that this used to be true in the old appraise system. If you had 45 lore, dropping out your INT bonus from gear and spells probably brings that down to 39, which would indeed give a 5% failure rate.Ridiculously Circuitous Plans wrote:The wizard of mine I referenced earlier had the 45+ without any soft bonuses. Exactly my thought.
Has this always been the case? Is it a bug?
I'm not a fan of the current language system, and my sole reason of investing into lore was avoiding to deal with its mechanics as much as I could.

Re: Autotranslate Lore Check
Ah, my apologies, misread on my part. Thought you were referring to soft lore bonuses.
