Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
Got a question about the area. There are things in the Forest of Despair area that can kill PC's if not accompanied by another PC and there are things that can entangle them. Do kensai or PC's with freedom of movement spell or maybe even druids/rangers get affected by this?

IF I recall correctly, the quicksand overrides your FoM, meaning that potentially just walking by with a low STR character, even buffed to high heavens, you can die.

Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
There are stll quicksands? I haven't ran into those in well over a year.
Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
that kinda sucks if you have freedom of movement and you aren't completely free of movement

Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
Having spent literal weeks running through the FoD, I have NEVER encountered quicksand. Though there are other random events in game that shall remain FOIG.

Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
I haven't either, honestly.
I tend to avoid FoD like the plague since it swallowed my rogue/ranger.
Maybe they were, in fact, removed in one of those five million silent updates that the DMs will never tell us about.

Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
I haven't seen the quicksand for a long time. I'm glad, because it sucked.
Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
Haven't been seeing it either. Probably removed it since that forces parties in the area which parties are a good thing but sometimes I solo places and hope I find a party to join since have nobody I know on etc... Most likely got removed then if hasn't been seen for awhile
Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
Quicksand was removed a long time back.
Druids, Rangers, Kensai and people with FoM active should be able to go through the FoD pretty easily without worry about the other effects.

Can we confirm this? Because I avoid the place as much as possible since it ate my lvl 30 monk/ranger way back when.Dreams wrote:Quicksand was removed a long time back.

I spent two weeks in there with Mathias, training him from lvl 12 - 20, NEVER encountered it.

There is just the entangle one now.

Quicksand was removed on account of being pretty buggy and fundamentally unfun.

it was awful
Re: Forest of Despair... Freedom of Movement
Speaking from experience. Nothing can lock you in FoD when you have freedom of movement (not roots, no quicksands, nothing) but you CAN get 5 trees spawning on your head and making unable to path through and you are stuck between them, getting beaten to death with little to say about it (and after you're god-saved you just die again when the sanctuary fades because you cant move). I don't mean to rant but that ~does~ happen even if you have freedom of movement.

Trees are easy to avoid though, just don't walk near any trees.

Just avoid the forest area and you're fineNitro wrote:Trees are easy to avoid though, just don't walk near any trees.
