RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Attacks me when I'm speaking to sibayad banker. Lol. I'm an Orog but Sibayad has never been hostile before. Lost 7 k. Plus a ton of xp. Should I expect this treatment from now on.
Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Ranulf has always been the OG paladin who kills underdark races.

Ranulf keeps dumb shit like kobolds and drow wandering in the middle of a busy, human merchant town in the desert from happening. Ranulf is great and I love him. Every kill he makes is a righteous one.

Ranulf best npc. I want to spend a 5% roll to play his son.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
That's weird because he totally ignored me the other 20 times I walked passed him.
Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
I watched 4 kobolds stand right beside him yesterday and he didn't blink an eye.not sure what to think.
Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Could be lag, or the faction system still being bug fixed.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Like most auto-hostile NPCs, he only rarely, -randomly- attacks.
Which is very annoying.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
I don't know why anyone likes the npc that literally forces players to break the rules by killing him because he won't stop following you.
Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
It is not against the rules to kill an npc thats attacking you. Its just like any other spawn at that point.
Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
(as long as he's not attacking you due to you attacking him )Giftstoff wrote:It is not against the rules to kill an npc thats attacking you. Its just like any other spawn at that point.

I've killed him like 5 times, so "keeps" might not be the best word.gilescorey wrote:Ranulf keeps dumb shit like kobolds and drow wandering in the middle of a busy, human merchant town in the desert from happening. Ranulf is great and I love him. Every kill he makes is a righteous one.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
If the same, normally friendly NPC has attacked you five separate times, why do you keep going back?

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Because if he attacks you, you are free to drop him to near-death, lasso him and sell him in Sibayad, to then proceed to enjoy the rest of your day sunbathing while you count your righteously-earned gold?

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT

(a) I want to buy stuff from the shops there and
(b) I can, in spite of the dinky little paladin NPC who wants to stop me and always dies trying.
This is like asking "Why go hiking when there are bugs?"
Answer: I can swat them.

You can also run around Guldorand in broad daylight as a Goblin, "lol because I can :^)" is hardly a justification.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
There's the difference that Sibayad is sort of recognized as a "keep the head low and you won't lose it" kind of town that is widely regarded ICly as a place where you can actually move with a monster, while Guldorand is more like a mini mountain town that is in Arelith, and better connected to the rest of the island. Oh, and it's full of shirtless woodcutters with axes.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Is Sibayad not nutral ground. I've always witnessed monster races and regular races coexist there with an uneasy truce. The rule of the bazaar being no blood spilled. Break the rule and you are hunted down. Ranulf wouldn't be a big deal if he stayed outside the bazaar but when he is attacking people at the banker he's a dick. The lure of Sibayad for me was that it was like Los vagas. No judgment and what happened there stayed there. There is no kill script for monster races. He'll. There have been extended periods where disgraced drow were in charge.
Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
If he swings on you, you have license to kill him. The no killing NPCs rule is intended mostly towards merchant and essencial NPCs. So don't kill the merchant he is guarding. But feel free to dirt him if he rushes you. This topic crops up from time to time.
Plays: Durvayas(deleted), Marco(deleted), Hounynrae(NPC), Sinithra Auvry'ndal(rolled), Rauvlin Barrith(Active), Madeline Clavelle(Shelved)

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Says who? The only "monster" NPC around Sibayad is several zones away, by the oasis, by himself and Noxt I think it was in the past said that Outcasts cannot own property in the town itself but the two exterior forts are fine).
I've never understood why people consider Sibayad to be a-okay with monster races wandering the streets. There's even a NPC outside who will attack you.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Originally, there was nothing to indicate you simply couldn't, being the first city without killscript upon implementation, and I think that was great.
Having played several underdark characters, I often feel constricted down there, pit together with little breathing room, and having the option to - at least occasionally - go to the surface, to a town that for either fear or convenience doesn't automatically strike you down was a huge venting point to keep playing.
And what's wrong with going around Sibayad? Having a neutral point like that can serve as random meeting point for characters from many different backgrounds, surfacer and UDer. Conflict, or even the exchange of roleplay perspectives is amazing (or occasionally jarring). And I'd rather it no other way.
Now shut up and help me lasso Ranulf. He has like 55 AB and deals some scary damage.

Re: RANULF THE QUEST NIGHT
Ranulf's quest is rehabilitating the corrupt settlement of Sibayad, starting by kicking monster butt back down to the UD.
