I have access to another, and I was contemplating letting my son try the single player anyway. So I can get a copy of the game from GoG.

But there'll be an obvious issue with my CD key. What do you recomnend?

I don't know it. Afaik I don't have access to it.

Not exactly sure what you mean? You don't need a CD key for the singleplayer mode. At least not for the GOG version. And GOG sends you a key for the game for multiplayer purposes if you bought the game from their site.

Your CD Key is your account.
If you want to access it again, you'll need to find the old CD key, or do some identification juggling with the DM team to have your stuff moved.

Make a copy if the ini file that had the CD key and Dave it if av different folder. When you play, move it to your NWN folder. When you let your son play, put the original fume back.
