Taking feat is equal to... ?

Post by Diilicious » Mon Aug 21, 2017 4:06 am

I have a question regarding the choising of feats and what kind of things actually would constitute a realistic aquisition of that skill, whatever it may be.

So, uh.. for example, if somebody picks a spell focus, what constitutes a RP explanation for now having that feat.

just reading lots of book on the subject?

I ask because it is important on a character level to understand what somebody must have undertaken in order to get proficient at a particular thing.

Practice, training and study, like anything else you learn or gain.

Honestly, there's no "canon" answer here. Anything that seems logical to you will do.

A feat is defined by the word itself; it's an achievement. Consider ir a breakthrough worth of refinement of a skill, of a study. A level of comprehension that gives you an intrinsic understanding over something that could be very specific like evading swift attacks (Mobility), or a dominion over the basics of a school of magic (Spell Focus), the attunement to call upon the power of a godlike entity (Divine Might), a bodily-built trait that could even be product of a rough background (Toughness, Snake Blood), or even the culmination of a longer chain of abilities summed together to achieve a single outstanding perk (Epic Dodge, Dragonshape, Epic Spells, etc).

At end of counts, it is what it is for your character.
Every character and every player are bound to see feats differently. The question would be, what are feats to you?
