Lore question: Drow / Elf age

Post by In A Motionless Scene » Tue Aug 15, 2017 11:36 am

Hi

Labelas Enoreth of the Seldarine oversees the longevity of the elves.
He's also like "yo, half elf, half human, I can't math so you get like 1/4 lifespan of my elf buddies max"

Why do drow live so long? I mean, Labelas probably isn't cool with sustaining drow life.

Did Lolth think "man now that I betrayed like a huge roundtable of powerful gods that banished me and my people to a life in darkness, i'll just do everything they do together on my own because that's totally what I do with my divine domains of chaos, evil and trickery"?

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

I guess that nobody knows the lifespan of the drow, because they do not tend to die of natural causes.

Elf(drow)
Considered mature adult of breeding age at 30 years
Average lifespan about 60-80
Max lifespan +4d% years

They become sexually active early by comparison to normal elves. Liriel Beanre is already an adult and proficient seductress at the tender age of 49.

Oldest drow on record......Yvonnel Beanre: Aged 2043
Second oldest drow...
Gromph Beanre: Aged... 800-ish?

A major thanks to Durvayas for this information.

Drow aren't the only long lived elves.

There are several ancient 1000+ elves featured in the FR world. The majority of them became baelnorn. Of them, Srinshee is the oldest, clocking at at least 1600.

The oldest elfblooded character on FR is a Fey'ri named Sarya Dlardrageth, who is over 5000 years old.

Yvonnel Baenre had been priest with long time favor of Lloth, her life span can be seen as unnatural extended by her goddess herself.

And Gromph had been one of most powerful arcanists, so again he was able to cheat on death via magic.

Gromph had an amulet of eternal youth. There is also Lord Dyrr, who is at least a 2000 year old drow lich.

But this aside, everything I've read suggests drow live just as long as other elves, just they tend to die young.

drow are able to live just as long as other elves.
drow reach adulthood earlier than other elves.. like somewhere between 40-80 (due to hostile/cruel environment).
drow die earlier than other elves on average (due to hostile/cruel environment).
drow breed faster than elves so it balances out, otherwise they would have gone extinct a long time ago (elves take forever to get preggo. Drow are much more akin to humans in that regard.)

That's the question.

Chalk it up to Lolth's intervention, faezress mutation, freaky drow experiments or any combination of them.

Or it's simply because moon elves sun elves wood elves drow are all elves and to take the gift from one part would mean to take it from the whole. I don't think I've ever seen it explained anywhere.

I don't think Labelas is necessarily the cause of the elves long life. (I can't find any mention of him causing it)

I'd put it down to biology or just plain magic, considering what they're descended from.

It would then stand to reason that then Drow have the similar advantages and that half-blooded creatures have differing amounts.
Thankfully this team is no longer being used.

That Drow also take on Labela's gift is a good argument for it actually being a curse.

Elves supposedly originate from the fey realms, have some hint of a fey heritage and fey typically are very, very long lived if not outright immortal.

It might well have nothing to do with the Seldarine at all.

Isn't that 4ed lore? in 3ed they are supposedly descended from the blood of Correllon (literally).
The Tel-quessir’s origins are uncertain but recent evidence suggests they were born in the war between Gruumsh and Corellon. During the battles Corellon shed some of his divine blood and it is said that from this blood the eladrin were born
