Fighter AB/damage bonus stacking

Post by Lorkas » Sun Apr 23, 2017 11:23 am

The new weapons that all have enhancement bonuses rather than AB and damage bonuses separately have me wondering... would a level 25 fighter that equipped a Lesser Moonblade have +4 AB/damage from the +4 enhancement bonus, or would s/he have +6 (+4 from the EB on the weapon and another +2 of each from having 25 fighter levels)?

It stacks.

I was using some weapons with enchanted bonuses and it stacked. Also it counts bonus damage depending what kind of additional dmg is there (see the description by ..pepermint? in fighter manual).

Lesser moonblade is great you can go only 23 fighter and still keep +5 weapon :D

Because to heck with humans. All of you who happened to be playing one to fighter 25, well... sucks to be second best fighter /wm build designed to beat DR.

/sigh

I guarantee you that a human WM is still better. The best choice for a WM is still a scimitar/rapier, and there's no race-specific +4 scim yet.

And you cant get third class dip if you take 23 fighter and 5+ wm.

Because you can have a +8 weapon!
Doesn't work any better than a +5, but it's +8!

Then you can speak all the day like Vriska with perfect justification.

Wouldn't having keen on your primary weapon make it an even more appealing weapon for a WM? I assume most use rapiers / scimitars use masterly damask primaries. So wouldn't your crit chance be similar? 13–20 crit range on all 3 traits?

Seems like the DMs put in an equalizer to me to make other weapons viable.

Unless you happen to have a Masterly Damask scimitar or rapier with the Keen property enchanted on by 5% roll, in which your crit range becomes 10-20x3. Still, yes; with the new changes to the requirements for Masterly Damask, obtaining a Keen MD weapon has only become more difficult. The Moonblade/Shortsword are good replacements due to the immediate access to Keen as well as the AB increase of 1 and Runic property, but it's still a 2 damage loss over a Masterly Damask weapon.

Could you use the runic slot on a damage increase, though? Ideally after adding a permanent essence.

Would adding a permanent essence wipe out the bonus damage vs undead?

I don't believe it'll remove the vs undead bonus damage, but if you try to enchant a d4 damage onto it, that won't stack with a permanent essence.

It does, iirc, if you add the 1d4 after the essence. i.e.: him fist gloves w/ +4 pos being 5% enchanted for an additional 1d4 divine.

Oh, neat. I know if you did it the other way around it wouldn't work.

Of course you're still probably better off using runic to get a +1 universal or strength or whatever, but that's still fairly neat.

Right, but you miss out on the +5 EB to beat DR.

+5 EB to beat DR is basically never worth giving up UMD on a WM. The only kinds of DR you bypass this way (stoneskin, greater stoneskin, premo) can be either breached/mords'd off, or just powered through with raw DPS.

Eventually, a WM will want to slap keen on a masterly damask weapon, so that property doesn't set it apart.

Even assuming otherwise raw crafted gear and nothing else, though, an essenced m. damask scimitar outperforms an essenced +4 keen longsword in the hands of a WM against the vast majority of opponents you'll run into on Arelith. Some niche exceptions exist, but they're mostly fringe cases where you've got very high AC opponents, and even then, the standard WM answer of 'pop true strike' completely negates the AB differential, since attack bonuses from weapon enhancement count towards the same +20 cap that true strike tops off automatically.

Also you have to not be a human to make the moonblade happen, and humans remain the master race.
