There are issues with models and such (this could be from your overrides, our content or Beamdog content) where a names differ error occurs. This is less of a problem for PC players as it is for mobile players (Android seems to crash on these errors). And, in effort to eliminate these (to enable everyone the right to play without crashing), I am opening this thread in efforts to track them and fix the issues.
Where to find errors:
Errors aren't exclusive to crashing - but there is a handy error log that the game generates when you encounter these and close your client. It does sadly overwrite, but anyone can look for this file and report the error logs. So, please check these files periodically for us to fix them!
Steam Users:
- Right Click NWN:EE in your Steam Library. Select Manage then Browse Local Files
- Navigate through the following folders: bin -> win32
- Open the file AR_ERROR_LOG in a text editor (see screenshot below)
- Copy the content and post in the thread below.
- Delete AR_ERROR_LOG after posting.
What this means on our side:
This is often an error inside a model that is present in our haks. However, some instances, these are actually in people's overrides (and we can only educate those people to update their overrides). But, with our own content, we can fix the errors. Using one model as an example:
The above file name differs to the name of the model and all its references in its ASCII. These should be identical otherwise you will have the name differs issue. In reporting these, I am better able to track our models instead of browsing thousands of individual model files in effort to scan them all.
Please be sure to report these to help your fellow players out!
Thanks,
