PDK Vanguard

Finally reached the vaunted PDK 10 on a vanguard, and I could be wrong, but "Final Stand" does NOT seem to immobilize enemies at all...they keep right on swinging.

Immobilize doesn't mean they can't take actions, it means they're not mobile.

Well, huh, there is a NWN status "immobilize"...associated with Bigby's and a few other rare effects. Still learning about the game at 10+ years in.

Not a bug then.

It's actually the same as the Immobilize done by Bigby 7 and 9. Note that Bigby spells do a variety of effects, including KD + Daze, stun, and paralyze. Immobilization occurs when one is hit by the grapple check of Bigby 7 or 9 but has mind-protection up, preventing full paralysis. The one hit by the spell is then immobile, but can still perform actions and do attacks.

I think the initial reaction about the vanguard capstone ability being overpowered was overreaction then, especially considering its brief duration. It may be a nice, if probably too short, way of reducing the stratospheric AC of PMs...now that their AC is dodge (I see what you did there, well-played, Sir). If anything, now knowing what this does, I think its even more useful in PvE!

Side note: belated kudos on the PDK revamp, it really is interesting.

I was building a PDK vanguard, and I was stoked about it.
Until I hit level 5 and I found that:
Last Stand takes a standard action, which increasingly limited the effect I expected.
Last Stand has only a Large area of effect, which is really not impressive.
Misc Changes, with the Feats and Skills sublinks.
Available races
Spell Changes
Class Mechanics
Command Guide

I do think last stand should become an instant action and perhaps have colossal effect. It is underwhelming for the exact reasons you state. The only gem of it seems to be the rare instance you need to peel off dodge AC in PvP (I'm not even sure this works because of the standard action part and its miniscule duration) and to briefly stop NPC/MoB (not PCs) casters/archers, since they can only melee during that time.

As a Vanguard 10, I'd like to see it last a little longer.
