Kensai and Grenades

Kensai can't seem to use mundane grenades.

Wouldn't they be considered a ranged weapon? I thought I was pretty sure they couldn't use those...

They used to be able to, I vaguely remember Kensai making use of some Acid Fog grenades to hack at really slow targets, back when they still had Freeodm.
