I lost several items as I logged in with same account name and same character name. Character has zero remakes.
This event fired right after the reset: Logged me to the portal area (saved to Mercantile Building before reset). From Cities and Planes portal it took me to the login area, and throught the door transition to the boat in Cordor. Removal of items occured right when I logged in and found myself from the portal area.

Alas no. Otherwise I would've understood reason for it.
Edit: After the loss of items, I am getting adventure XP from the areas I have already visited before.
