Server Unbelievably laggy during peak hours

The server is essentially unplayable for me from about 6pm central to 10 or 11ish. My friends in the same area as me play on the server at the same time with no issues at all. I can only go about 3 mins before it completely freezes up and lags out. What am I doing wrong? It's not my ISP because my speeds are fine for EVERYTHING else. I love this server but damn I cannot play at all during the day, and forget about even attempting to login during weekends. And it's the weirdest lag too. I won't see enemies but i can still see players moving around, enemies are invisible and i cannot move but my summoned pet moves around and is clearly attacking even though i can't see it.

Are you in the US? Some players have been having issues specifically with Arelith, because of its location, and a routing issue.

Open a command prompt and enter "ping 145.239.204.29 -t -l 1" and let it run for a few hours during your usual bad time. After it's gone for a while, press ctrl-C or ctrl-Pause and see if it reports any significant packet loss.

Try using a VPN. I had the exact same problem a few days ago until I made the switch.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, US and yes, AT&T. What's annoying me is my friends are also on that server, they have AT&T, live a few blocks away and have no issues at all. I'll try a VPN, any recommendations on which one?
