Spellsword and shades

Post by BegoneThoth » Sat Dec 09, 2017 4:27 pm

Was told in discord 'Shades' does not work as a level 6 spell for the purposes of imbuing, and instead applys the spell level of the 'base' spell, so shades fireball imbues as a level 3. Did not want to level a spellsword to that point just to verify this bug, but it's sort of stopping me from playing the SS I want.

Was this fixed with the update today or is a fix still in the pipe?

that's not a bug... that's what the spell does
In particular, the innate level of each variant is the innate level of the corresponding "normal" spell (5 for cone of cold, 3 for fireball, and 4 for stoneskin, wall of fire, and summon shadow

The wiki has shades listed as level six effects, including cone of cold (shades) being listed directly below regular cone of cold as specifically separate spell levels, leading me to believe that behavior was unintended.

If it is intended can we update the wiki to reflect correct information? If it is intended its a very sneaky newbie trap, particularly when it comes to banning schools. As the class is a server original the wiki is really the only reference point people have for those mechanics, and making a character decision at level one only to find out at level 13 ish the wiki was just wrong and has been wrong and now you need to start over is very disheartening.

The spell level is taken from the 2da files (which list shades_fireball as a level 3 spell - same as it's counterpart) it's a wiki error, not a code error :)

Can we get the wiki updated then? I can't do it, I'm at work.

It's kind of a shame, it's a bone to throw to Illusionists to make Shades work more feasibly for higher levels.

Wiki still incorrect

Again this is a really critical bit of misinformation as people may ban a school assuming they can still get the effects via shades, stated as working a specific way, don't.

That's exactly what I did.
