Lore auto-translate

Post by cptcuddlepants » Tue Dec 05, 2017 6:00 pm

I have 40 lore score currently, which should always get me at least a 41 on Lore rolls (as 1 is not an auto fail.)

This morning, I had two lines of Animal Language fail to translate, which has never happened ever since I got ranks in Lore.

Anyone else getting this, or might I have messed up my understanding of how it works?

I think the languages are broken atm, due to the weird text I keep getting.

Do you have any INT or lore boosts from gear? Neither count.

None at all. No active spells, gear, or effects that boost my Lore.

There have been some related bugfixes recently. Do you have any Lore from feats? (Epic spell focus, etc.)

I've got Epic Skill Focus in Lore.

Going off what the wiki says about what counts towards the auto-translate, I should have the bare minimum to always translate any text.

The feat not counting to your lore total is likely the issue. We'll look into it.

I don't have ESF: Lore, but have a base lore skill of 55 (75 with Legend Lore spell running). Been getting tons of untranslated text, myself. Just started noticing it today.

It's possible that the same bug that led to ESF nor counting also prevented your bardic knowledge from counting.

Could be, that would drive it down to 36 if that's what's happening.

I noticed that too. I have 33 lore and with legends lore casted I used not to miss a line. Now I seem to not grasp most of what is being said, wheter the spell is up or not, and even from languages I’m intermediate at.

Presently, neither Bardic lore nor Legend Lore are factored in for language translation.

I'll look into having the code consider Bardic lore in those calculations.

You need 42 lore for 100% success with translation. Not 40. You could have just failed at a 10% rate, as 1 is not auto fail and 20 is not auto success with languages.

EDIT: also, Lorkas, I'm pretty sure INT bonuses to Lore count, but straight up bonuses from gear do not. I have played many a wizard with high INT who got 100% success rather early on. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The wiki says that you need to beat a DC of 41, not 43. I never had issues with auto-translate before the date I made the original post. I suppose it could be possible that I had a 10% chance to fail that I never, ever hit, but it'd be incredibly unlikely.

Int bonuses from gear don't count, according to a couple people I know who play wizards.

You can't trust the wiki. Lesson #1, my young padawan.

I have had characters with EXACTLY 41 lore (Base skill + Int bonus + 10 Epic Skill Focus) that failed at what I gathered to be a 5% rate. Bumped it up to 42 and never failed again. In my experience, you need to roll 42+ to understand languages.

I'm also not discounting that what you're experiencing may be a bug. Either way it should be looked into. If there's anyone with a character with 42+ lore feel free to test this out.

That means that Legends Lore was never supposed to count and won’t count again the future?

Cause personally that was the spell’s only use :)

It should only be 40 ranks to automatically pass the lore roll as the code says: loreRoll > 40. So, you need a 40 ranks and a roll of >1.

INT bonus to lore does count but equipment (skill or INT) does not.

My lore score is failing to translate A LOT lately, even when I have 36-38 lore from bard levels and intelligence bonuses. So I can confirm that it isn't working as it used to.

Be the change you want to see, and shape the server because of it. Players can absolutely help keep their fellow players accountable.

Reporting in with this too. I am failing a lot more than I should, with 40ish lore. Only experienced it with dwarven, haven't had other languages spoken around my characters yet.

Experiencing this problem also. Cities and Planes server, character is primarily bard. Used to get everything translated nearly, now not so much.

Strangely, I'm even getting "Unknown" in the language field, even though I'm loaded up with lore.

Lore auto-translating should again account for Bardic Lore, Raven totems, and various Background choices after the next reset.

May I ask why it was decided to stop Legend Lore counting towards this, please? Or was that just something that happened accidentally?
