Robes and Cloaks Not Rendering

Not sure why this has started, but I've only noticed it just now. I recently updated my graphics drivers...but that's all I can think of.

It seems to be working now...I did nothing but move from one zone to another.

This is related to the newest NVIDIA laptop driver update.
Reverting to the previous driver version solved the issue for me.

Given nvidias track record it may be 2 or 3 driver updates before its fixed.

Consider sending them an email detailing the game, issue and driver versions. They will get back to you (always have with me).

Can confirm, rolling back Nvidia drivers one fixed it.

edit: Went looking for other servers with the same issues, found one at Ravenloft.
The robe and cloaks DO appear when you switch from windowed-mode to full-screen via changing display resolutions in menu options.

However, if you alt-tab or switch back to Windowed mode (alt-enter), they disappear again. If you switch back to full-screen (alt-enter again), they do NOT return, unless you change display resolutions again.

Weird.
Someone else tried altering the resolution with the menu in full screen, and then put it in a window again. Robes and such remained visible. It's a bit of a workaround but if you *really* need those 4-5 Fps for those l33t modern games, it apparently works.

Forget what I wrote before, disabling the update access in group policies didn't work either.

I've dug some more and now, this seems to work:

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... 6/#5245266

Code: Select all

I would get off that driver:

Download DDU (get the 17.0.7.5):
Install DDU

Hold [SHIFT] and click on RESTART Windows.
you will end up in Safe mode
Cannot use PIN, must use Account password to enter SAFE MODE

Run DDU:
Select: NVIDIA software and Drivers
Select: Clean and Restart

Run the Microsoft Show hide tool
Hide all NVIDIA software and driver
Run it again to make sure there are no more, if more appear, keep rerunning

Download this 382.33 driver
Run DOWNLOAD package
Select: CUSTOM
Uncheck EVERYTHING excpet the GPU Driver and PHYSX
Check the CLEAN INSTALL box
Finish install
Reboot

===========================

If you have a driver that you know was good, it should be located in the NVIDIA folder.

Default location:

    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\xxx.xx\Win10_64\International

xxx.xx is the Version.

Run the SETUP.EXE file there.

===========================

Windows 10 PRO can turn off DRIVER updating.

Windows 10 HOME cannot. Every new Driver Release, Microsoft will push it to you. Rerun DDU, Rerun the Show hide tool, reinstall your Good driver.

Now I'm running Windows10 Pro v1703 with the NVIDIA 382.33 drivers, and everything in nwn is back to normal.

I play 1920x1200 windowed.

Please report the issues and driver versions.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/driverqual ... rance.html

They really do take feedback and fix drivers messing up old games. But you have to fill out the form so they know.

Another little twist on this. I have the same issue with robes/cloaks/cloth doors not rendering, and I couldn't fix it with any of the above solutions except rolling back my drivers (using 388.31 currently, most recent at the time of this post).

However, I found that if you go through the new character creation menu to Customize and cycle through clothes to select a robe, it will appear normally in the little preview window. When you back out and enter a module again, everything renders normally in-game. However, the problem recurs when you next restart the game, so it's a tedious little temporary fix.

In case it might help anyone else, I'll paste the instructions section of what I sent to Nvidia for reference. Hopefully it'll be useful if the other posted solutions don't work for anyone else.
Advanced settings are detailed below, but the issue occurs no matter what settings I try. They are listed below because this game is old and they're the most stable/convenient for my system. They are also the settings used to take the screenshots above.

To replicate the issue:

1) Launch Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition in Compatibility Mode (Windows XP SP3) as an Administrator.
2) Change in-game graphics to windowed mode (1600x1024 60hz), highest possible graphics settings.
3) Under Advanced Video Options, all sliders are maxed, all checkboxes enabled EXCEPT "Enable Shiny Water" and "Use high resolution font".
4) Enter any singleplayer or multiplayer module with a pre-existing character.
5) Equip any robes/visible cloaks, which will be invisible.
6) NOTE: Easiest/fastest way to do this:
a. Start any singleplayer campaign.
b. Select Premade Character
c. With "Show Pregenerated Characters" checked, select 'Jacob Chaal' and Play. The character starts with a robe. Alt., select any existing character you know has a robe equipped, and Customize.

To replicate the temporary solution:

1) Enter any singleplayer/multiplayer module.
2) Create New Character
3) Select any class/race/alignment/etc.
4) At 'Customize,' cycle through the available Clothing options until you have a robe selected.
5) At this point, you can proceed into the game or cancel out to the menu and load any other module/character. Everything works normally.
6) After exiting the game and starting it again, the issue recurs.

Done.

You can also just roll your driver back to May 2017's version.

But that's too easy.

Done.

Guys, just change the refresh rate at the same resolution once you start the game and they’ll render until you alt-tab/minimize/resize whatevs

Rolling back the update is not a good fix, since the update includes bug fixes and performance improvements to other games. A big one for me is a huge performance upgrade to Star Citizen.

Then you need to talk to nVidia using their feedback link.

The more reports the better.

Not sure what changed, but I got the new nvidia drivers, had this issue, then updated windows, and now the issue is gone. Everything is working again.

Can confirm I have this same issue, resizing the window or tabbing out will cause the visuals to disappear until my character transitions. Sounds like a temporary fix is as suggested, rolling your driver update back atleast until a new potential fix emerges.

Maybe in the world of EE we will be free of such glitches

This isn't the same issue. This is a bug inherent to NWN, not your graphics card. Any polymorph will render your cloak invisible until you reequip it or change its appearance.
