Slave questline glitched (SPOILERS!)

I broke the questline, oops!

I was told by a certain NPC to obtain a certain item before I could start. I obtained said item, and brought it back to her, but accidentally closed the conversation window halfway through.

The certain NPC took the item from me, but she isn't acknowledging that I gave it to her.

I can't obtain that item again, I've tried visiting its source both before and after a server reset.

Could I get some help getting un-stuck, please? (I can PM exact details of the NPCs and items in question, if needed)
