Wild Mage: Fatidical Manipulation

Post by Profane Evangelist » Fri May 05, 2017 7:30 pm

I have noticed something odd going on with Wild Mage Fatidical Manipulation, unless I'm being a (total) muppet.

About half the time when I hit fate -58, leading to these (via any self buff spell):

58 Caster becomes a true fighter.
59 Caster is granted uber spell resistance.

I get notification of surge activating, yielding rage effect for 58 and usual battle cry, but nothing else happens (actual surge boons).
Similar with SR. I get information it happened, but in reality it's not actually there but whistles out.

I haven't been able to see any patterns why it works sometimes, and sometimes doesn't; successful and failed -fates have taken place in same areas etc.

It's related to this. Use a different spell to invoke -fate 58, Bull's Strength for example. Mage Armor, Shield doesn't mix well with -surge and -fate.

That must be it then, thanks! I'll try with different self buffs.

Greater stoneskin, energy buffer, other spells that can only buff yourself but don't actually target anything don't play well with surge benefits or negatives on "caster" or "target."

Bumping - I just experienced the same thing with fate -91. Nothing happens.

Cast it as a Mage Armor, intending to get the Ghost Form.
That which doesn't kill you, simply makes you... stranger.

The Mage Armor spell is notorious for breaking any surge really. Don't use it when surging or fate.
