Dire Mace does not give Monk ab bonuses!

Hello. I made a build on my account and leveled him up adding focus feats into the dire mace. But when I started taking monk and when I tried to equip the dire mace (and was wearing robes)... I did not gain the monks base attack bonus. I believe this is a bug and hope it can be fixed or did I do something wrong on my end?

Beeeeeeeeecause, as far as I know, the quarterstaff is the weapon you are looking for, not the dire mace.

It's on the wiki that dire mace gives monk unarmed ab. So I decided to make a strength build monk that can use a dire mace that has the ab. As quoted on the forums. Has there been a new more recent post regarding that the dire mace is no longer a monk weapon? Or is this a bug that should be fixed? I literally made a build and leveled it up and when I start taking monk I can't use the monks ab... if I knew this was the case I would have picked a quarterstaff in the first place.

I even asked a few dm's on the server if the dire mace gives the ab and they said yes it does but am literally holding the weapon with the monk class not getting the bonus ab... so should I just delete this character because he is clearly ruined now or is this just a bug that needs to be fixed?

You shouldn't get any bonus AB, just extra attacks per round. What is your BAB, and how many attacks per round is it giving you?

Note also: that post you listed is the only place I've ever seen it said that dire mace gives monk UBAB (that I recall). The post might be in error.

He should get 2 AB, no?
All double-sided and weapons held as two-handed by the character will grant an additional +2 AB.

Yes, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with monk.

Huh. You are right.
We'll have to wait for a DM confirmation, though. I probably copy-wrote that line in the wiki in one of my many typing berserk moments without considering if it could a mistake.

Oh my bad, had to reread first post. Monk AB progression, not +2AB :)

Well, easier way to see if it works is grabbing a dire mace and going to whack the first gnome mob or lamp post that you find in your way. If you turbohit like you are hooked on red bulls, it's probably working.

I'd do it myself, but my monk is a midget, so he's not allowed to wield anything larger than him.

It still gives +2 AB due to being a two handed weapon, but all that does is offset the -2AB from dual wielding, so his AB should stay the same.

...He's not dual wielding?

Also, being "treated as a monk weapon" I'm pretty sure only means you get the ability to wield dire maces via monk levels.

A Dire Mace is a double weapon, which means using it is treated as dual-wielding.

And 'treated as monk weapon' means the monk's APR progression applies to the weapon, not just that a monk can use it.

Ahh, I didn't know they're a double-weapon. Ive never even looked twice at a dire mace.

yes it should give the APR of a monk and it doesn't do that. When I am saying "monk's ab" I am implying this. I tested the weapon and a quarterstaff and the quarterstaff gave me an extra attack when I equipped it and the dire mace didn't. Will play around with it a little more and see if it just doesn't show on the character sheet but as far as I know it is not working

Any update on this one?
Is the dire mace supposed to be a monk weapon or was that a typo?

Only kamas, quarterstaves, and shurikens count as monk weapons. Dire Maces do not.

Generally speaking, DMs are not uniquely qualified to comment on Arelith's mechanics. They're not developers, nor are they handpicked for their mechanical savvy. They're storytellers and referees first and foremost.

It may be a good idea to update this topic regarding the dire mace:
