Deer killer

Post by Tarkus the dog » Mon Oct 21, 2019 1:54 am

This post is stupid and probably isn't even a bug, really, but every single time I try to rescue a deer from a group of goblins or similar the animal turns hostile and I accidentally kill it with my cleave along with the goblins, making me look like some bambi hating scumbag.

Now this probably isn't that big of a deal to normal people, but it frustrates me immensely every time it happens. Can I get any help from the team to help me save the deer population of Arelith?

Just let the deer die if they are being attacked... in nature they are both prey animals and a good source of food for people so have to expect predators and hunters will be trying to take them. A deer would likely consider you as just another threat and attack you anyway, it would not understand you are trying to save it.

Give positive encouragement from a distance.

So we should just start accepting game errors and turn them into Roleplay.

Oh yeah that one time I got pushed on top of the gate in Cordor by accident because of NWN's awful pathing? Yeah that was intervention from Akadi.

Its not a game error as far as im concerned its a realistic depiction of how things actually work in RL. Out of all the bugs this game has you are going to complain about this lol?

I think the way wild animal work is that, if you're within a certain range of them, you have to make animal empathy checks or else they go hostile. Yeah, I guess its kinda weird but if anything its less of a bug and more of a design flaw. Maybe give them a silent fear effect so they try to run away? While getting teleported on top of a gate is an obvious bug, a deer attacking you is, at worst, something that can RPed out of.

Sure but why when the deer are alone they are content with us chilling together, but when fighting goblins they want to chase me to the ends of the earth. I remember one time a deer chased me into the Arcane Tower, until a ranger made it neutral -- To make things even more hilarious, two horses were already there so the place turned into a little animal farm. A shame the ox outside the tower didn't join the party.

This looks like a script error, or a falsely assigned one.

Way it should work is this:

Animal (Hunter) - Will turn hostile when one gets too close - Attacks Animal (Prey)
Animal (Pray) Will flee when one gets too close

When I'm less tired I'll take a look at the deer.

This is beyond deer I think. The Earthkin Alliance folk will also turn hostile if you enter their fracas with Orcs, Haast Eagles, and such.

I laughed - I notice this too, but, never thought about it much..

I'd always be confused when the deer would attack a random party member and I'd just sort of look at them like...
Wut u do 2 da deer m8? :c

So I could see why this would be a little irksome :S deer r frendz nawt fud. :3
