Shopping Montage
Dis looks great! The atmosphere, the new models (even the ones without textures look great), the distant towering vistas, and overall NPC flair. Had me thinking it felt like legitimate old school bioware content. Kept expecting a little illusion to pop up and say, "I'm Commander Shepherd, and this i...

Re: How usefull is 80 Lore exactly?
there's maybe 5 spells that you'd actually want to cast from a scroll. you're hugely inflating the value of the other hundred or whatever spells there are. This has been my experience as well. Reminds me of the ridiculous UMD requirements on certain pieces of gear. After a certain point, these valu...

Re: Pruning the World Tree
Alright. Proof is in the pudding. Requirements: Two DM's, Normal Update Schedule, Participating Players, Very Minor Code Changes. “Growth Blight” fey, plants, and animals, start popping up in the wilds of Arelith. Little DM spawned critters that just spice things up, and hint at more to come. Playe...

Re: Pruning the World Tree
Took me all morning to come up with a huge example of how it could be done without profound module changes. Then Kuma went and put it very simply. Bugger! lol I'll post it in a follow up thread, for now, though TL;DR Mechanical changes imply changes to the setting. Because What We See Is What We Get...

Re: Pruning the World Tree
The notion about players attempting to make sense of their world, and debating the nature of it, is awesome! But I don't understand why it's acceptable to take that approach with planar makeup, and no where else? People end up reading various wikis, and asking things in the discord lore channel, ext...

Re: Pruning the World Tree
Assuming a comment made in good faith, in an effort to stimulate conversation. New world events don't necessitate reading pages of lore. Though, new world events that preserve expectations and setting integrity, without requiring too much reading, do necessitate creativity :) For example, going off ...

Re: Pruning the World Tree
Changing edition was definitely not what I said. Arelith has already home-brewed plenty of stuff. One doesn't have to change edition in order to expound upon the setting. Events in history that shake up the cosmology of the world can happen all within the confines of Arelith's 3.X mechanical structu...

Re: Pruning the World Tree
I probably don't know enough about the spellplague, specifically, to comment about whether or not its a good idea, but I think just in terms of a big cosmology shake-up that would change the layout of the planes? That would actually be super dope. I hope one day the Admin's put it to practice. Let's...
Re: Hexblade
C'est la vie, I suppose. You have a pretty damn good point.
Here's hoping that future friction will see us through!

Re: Hexblade
Because something (Arelith Hexblade) is unlike a thing (“PnP Hexblade”) that means thematic consistency is not important? Sorry if that comes across as snarky, but the logic (if it’s meant as a justification) seems absent. The problem I would think a roleplay server should inherently have with this ...
Re: Hexblade
I suppose disregarding theme and immersion is the norm after all, then. I'm just saying that hexblades, mechanically, have much more in common with classes that don't get spellcraft (paladin and ranger) than those that do. Arcane v divine is not something I considered at all. I suppose sacrificing t...
Re: Hexblade
Are there differences between arcane and divine spellcasting? I guess if there isn't, then you're likely right, and comparing arcane concepts-and-mechanics to divine concepts-and-mechanics is a valid argument. If that's the case, I'll just see myself out.
Re: Hexblade
"But Hexblades are martial / don't get high level spells! They shouldn't get spellcraft."Baron Saturday wrote: ↑Sat May 02, 2020 8:46 pmI feel like not having spellcraft simply puts hexblades on par with ranger and paladin, both of which have similarly limited spellbooks.
Re: Hexblade
Something I find strange is how spell-craft was removed, despite it being perfectly thematic (to a degree, GMW as well). Really seems like it was only done that way in an effort to not make blackguard the go-to dip, which in-of-itself seems like a backwards motivation. No spellcraft because Dark Ble...
Re: Hexblade
Fun fun! For consideration, maybe some temp HP when slaying your Hexed target? Very... "Steal their life-force" vibe as previously described. Some survivability is totally a good call! Still wonder about the damage scaling, though. Seems like it could be tiered more, to be attractive at lower levels...
Re: Hexblade
Something I'd love to see is some commentary from the developers about the design choices they've made. For example, I've not read anyone present a reason why the Hexblade should continue scaling linearly, instead of a more staggered approach. In fact, I've only noticed people talking about how the ...
Re: Hexblade
Seems like most folks are on the same page. Something I find myself wondering, is why damage scales by flat values, instead of dice rolls. It would be a lot more appealing if, instead, weapon curse feats gave a solid dice count. Might make a 7 dip more worthwhile, if instead of a +1 that scaled up t...

Re: Shaman Feedback
Had another interesting thought that may be inspiring. The rashemi witches are one of the best examples of shamans (that I know of) in the forgotten realms. There was Eltab the demon lord, set upon the land by Narfell mages, where it was the Witches of Rashemi that imprisoned him AND bound a dracoli...
Re: Hexblade
Call me crazy, but I brought this up a few years ago... Not that anybody asked, but if it were up to me, blackguard would lose some key features (like dark blessing, turn undead, and one of their summons), and instead gains Hex (and hex augmenting feat selections--no weapon curses), along with a spe...
Re: Hexblade
Played on PGCC. While end game looks like it's in a good position... small dips, and near half-half spreads are sort of sad. Which is perhaps indicative of a problem the server will address in its future, but I digress. Some classes like rogue, and blackguard, offer high incentives to dip. Monk too....
Re: Hexblade
We could always restrict how CHA-to-saves, and Divine Might/Shield function. It's inevitable that we'll get a change like this. ;) I won't get into that though, just wanted to say I love the class concept. Shaman and Hexblade are may favorite character archetypes, so I'm super stoked to see these tw...

Re: Shaman Feedback
I thought occurred to me that I thought would be fun to spit-ball here. A shaman using Rage, what does that look like? Be it from Barbarian synergy, or if that doesn't stick with the class, maybe from a class unique buffed version of Blood Frenzy. Well if the class is focused on the-spirits-that-be,...

Re: Shaman Feedback
Very nicely put. I could see some bard aesthetic in there too, just as the oral traditionalists and lore keepers of their respective lands. The african Griot comes to mind, along with more nordic inspirations behind shamans. The shaman then, as a loose natural spiritualist and wise-person, I would d...

Re: Shaman Feedback
All art is based off human experience. It speaks to grander narratives and themes found throughout life. Trying to not base a class off historical mythology is a futile exercise that will just make an unconvincing class. It can have a novel spin, but at the end of the day, the core concept is ground...

Re: Shaman Feedback
The ghostly visage / ethereal visage thing is dope. Coupled with the Tribal Barbarian, it could look like you're literally summoning the spirits of your ancestors/tribe. The class so far is very underwhelming compared to Druid, though. If people think the Tribal Barbarian is a concern, just make it ...
