Re: Spellsword build
Yes I don't think spell penetration is worth a feat. Maybe take epic skill: discipline instead to keep knockdowns away? Or just keep it open, you may want to take wand or potion for enchantment purposes or something by the time you get to 30. Tumble can't get to 30 on a ranger so 16 is best you can ...

Re: Spellsword build
Do i need 60 hp or the love of my god? I usually take the altar gift for consecration. I can take the hp but ill spend 4x the time praying. What is the significant difference between lvl 27 wizard and 26 vs 25? Particularly to casting effectiveness? I can try for 5 ranger levels but i expect my fea...

Re: Spellsword build
You need at least 14 constitution to have decent hitpoints. Wisdom and Charisma could be ignored. You should take the gift of melee if a drow. Also I think you should consider going strength based. Dex can work but the benefits of strength outweigh the extra AC on a spellsword. That would free a fea...

Re: Big Update feedback - A rogue's perspective
The lack of ability to use summon scrolls puts rogues at a disadvantage. Yes, it encourages them to find parties. But decent and reliable parties are a luxury on Arelith for a lot of players, not something you can consistently hope to find. At level 3 and level 30 there’s always options but it's a c...

Re: Should Good Alignment monsters be rarer?
Leaving monster paladins out of it, I don’t think “good” monsters are so impossible to play. Being good doesn’t mean they have to be friends with surfacers. A good human would still see a good goblin as the enemy and kill it immediately. A good monster raised among monsters still sees surfacers as “...

Re: Should Good Alignment monsters be rarer?
There's always the ECL but it's pretty meaningless with the writ system now. Instead of -2 ECL I think a normal award could just let you start a character at level 9 or something. However right now Normal awards are really dull.

Re: Specialist Wizard and the Enchantment School
Of course it's the school to drop if you're building the strongest wizard you can but you have to admit it has some of the most fun spells. Dominate person/monster is hilarious and very useful and strong in PVE. I wish the ESF enchantment bonus that was supposedly in the works a long time ago would ...

Re: Specialist Wizard and the Enchantment School
The nature of a persistent world is figuring out what works in a given dungeon or situation then doing it a thousand more times in exactly the same way. A generalist wizard works well here because it's better to have all possible tools in your kit instead of a few more spells to cast. Giving up one ...

Re: Writ Rewards - Need to find the bad ones!
The writ process on this server in general is skewed heavily towards casters/summoners or both, and a lot of people do not optimise their builds heavily enough to account for it or have a party to gather with constantly (The amount of times I have to ask, or get asked, what someone's level is befor...

Re: Underdark races
I think it would be funny to see goblins given a constitution boost and maybe even disease immunity. They're the cockroaches of Faerun and live in disgusting conditions. Orog, yeah, you can make an amazing blackguard but the stats are otherwise pretty restrictive. They could really stand to be a 1 E...

Re: Commoners can't select noble reward
I'm not even sure why it is "commoner", the skill-set says "artisan" or "craftsman" instead. It's a bit odd that "noble" is a descriptor gift and commoner is a class. Many of the adventurers out there are "commoners" or of commoner/peasant/lower class background already and I'm not sure what it's su...

Re: The Big UMD Change Thread
I don't think what you want is out of line, but there are some huge roadblocks in the way. For one it would take significantly more DM involvement because you need a referee. Even improv needs a director or ringleader or what have you to smooth out the kinks. Including when two people just can't get...

Re: The Big UMD Change Thread
I think the vast majority who stick it out here are interested in RP. The thing is, they may not be interested in RP with you . I'm not singling "you" out, I mean that in a general sense. A lot of players are interested in RP in their comfort or interest zones but aren't going to give much back to s...

Re: Is commoner leveling too slow?
You basically just get XP for showing up and not dying, not for doing much of anything (except crafting) so maybe the pace ought to be slow? Adventurers should probably gain levels faster than commoners since their lives are all about risk and reward. The concept of a "epic commoner" is an odd one a...

What is this? I'm sorry everything I said isn't of interest to you but there's no reason to put me down for expressing an opinion. Things are contentious enough on the forums lately and you don't have to be insulting every chance you get.

Light hammer small or tiny?
The update says light hammers are now tiny but in game they are still small.
As I'm sure you already guessed, yes I am considering a dual wiedling svirf. This would make or break that concept so I am just curious.

Re: The new rod usability
Items have objective power, events and quests have subjective ramifications that can be altered with the addition or removal of the actors. Look, I'm not saying I don't trust the DMs, I do. What I'm saying is that distributing objective power through subjective methods is often not a good thing - a...

Re: The new rod usability
When I first heard rods were being introduced I imagined we'd be getting 50 charge or 1/day items, or barring that, some sort of craft wondrous item feat for spellcasters to make rods (at a higher price than scrolls). This is just kind of dissapointing. Introducing rods that can be crafted with for...

They should just disable playing a base NWN school wizard. (and then make specialist paths later) p eazy to do Considering what they're giving up specialists should also get a +2 to DC in your selected school and maybe even require 1 less spell component (8th would take 1, 9 would 2, 7 is free)

Re: Double Standards due to IG Race
. Monster PCs don't make for compelling villains on a server where every character starts off hunting bandits, goblins and orcs and continues to butcher their way through zones full of NPC gnolls, quaggoths, orcs and duergar as they level up. When faced with a monster PC villain, you don't need to ...

Re: The Big UMD Change Thread
I do have one thing I need to get out of my system.. A large part of the reason I play a nearly 20 year old game and 15 year old server is because it’s an old friend. I know things weren’t perfect but I knew how they worked and didn’t worry about making bad build choices in a linear game where decis...

Re: The Big UMD Change Thread
As a mundane my biggest complaint at this immediate moment is that we are being told the follow-up is going to be extensive, but we only get 48 hours after our log-in to choose to rebuild, a decision that is completely dependent on the full, polished update, not just "stage 1". If I want to make an...
