Re: Arelith: Shaking Up The In Game Landscape.
I think what you're getting at, FrozenSolid, is that characters should be a reflection of their environment, culture and upbringing and not perfectly unique anomalies created in a vacuum. I agree with that completely, only I find FR lore lacklustre and prefer to draw inspiration from real world hist...

In those days you would just be systematically killed until you went away. How is that any better than your circumstances now?DarkDreamer wrote:I would even love the Baronial system!!
Also I didn't lose in the elections, so get off your arse and quit the personal attacks. I started this post, not Kyle.

Re: Going back to the old ways...
Having played a character systematically alienated by a Cordor regime, I know for a fact it's totally possible to fight back even when exiled.

Re: Going back to the old ways...
Sounds like the system is working as intended? Either organize significant political opposition or don't make enemies of powerful people. You've established that the Chancellor is all powerful, so why would you be surprised when trying to change things internally doesn't work? You presume that all t...

Re: Yoinking people from captivity.
Kinda cheap gameplay there imho. So someone goes and kills them, not bothering to disable them to capture them. Because trying to disable them would be risky? And more effort, to use non lethal means. We should remove the entire kill - raise thing more, than yoinking. Sadly, even my companions cant...

Re: Are PC's aware that they cant die?
To follow up with this: how do you personally hand-wave the fact that people's corpses get bashed and then they're right as rain a few hours later? Sometimes people come back, sometimes they don't. There are thousands of PCs that have died permanently. In fact, if you go by how few characters exist...

Re: Yoinking people from captivity.
Basicaly - you can't... and rally shouldn't -force- roleplay onto another person. Yoink allows other people to have a hand in rescuing said captive, it allows the captive to have a more interesting story 'out' than any of the above. And it is generally just a good thing. Now don't get me wrong, a c...

Absolutely! This is being dealt with IC currently. I think there's measures we can take to discourage outrageous pricing.Capt.shadow wrote:i will agree to the top poster, if you really dislike the choices of merchants/shops around your settlement, talk to who ever runs trade for that area, see what going down.

Re: Yoinking people from captivity.
I think we should reframe the discussion about what -yoink adds to the server, and if it should still exist, rather than implementing more ways to prevent against it. I, for one, think -yoink should be removed. Give Conjuration something else. I hate hearing about a great conflict-captivity plot, w...

In any case, let's stop bringing PnP into these discussions. Not only is Arelith far removed from a DM-run pen-and-paper campaign, but the source rules often cited incorrectly or inappropriately.

Re: Okay, time to rediscuss this....
It's not about it being fun, it's about ic consequences. This is a roleplaying server. Where death matters. It's not an mmo. If you wanted to play an mmo, I suggest ESO or Konan Exiles. IC actions should have IC consequences, sure. A 32 hour penalty is not an IC consequence, that is an OOC conseque...

Re: Tips on making the grind less grindy?
Always give your character independent goals and functions so there's always work to do. My current dude is whipping up a bestiary, so I have an actual reason to be out grinding and I have the choice of doing that by myself or with a group.

Re: Heartwood Grove TIMELINE
History is written by the victors. I think this sort of thing should really be kept track of IC though, as it certainly provides a massive amount of RP for characters who are interested in local histories. Particularly for druids, who typically have oral traditions of passing on their histories. I ...

Re: Character Participation
There's no shortcut to getting back into the server, like Seven says. "Take a break" isn't always great advice, because too long a break and you risk alienating yourself from the server. Joining a faction isn't necessarily good advice either. Playing in a faction with limited time was insanely stres...

Re: EA/Database/IG Research
I'd happily lead up a charge to make it more a random assortment of tid bits and facts and piecemeal "topics" than actual mega chronology, an actual "history." And that was the core problem, making it some kind of absolute Truth was doomed. Rather, it should exist like some kind of "second-tier can...

Re: EA/Database/IG Research
And while we're at it, is there any particular reason ea.arelith was taken down? I feel like its removal has done a lot of (further) damage to the server's historical tradition. I'd love a replacement!
