Re: Shadow Priestess Build: Finalized Chart

Another thing I just noticed: you won't even be able to cast that many spells due to your low wisdom score and relatively low cleric levels. I guess being a healer helps a bit, but even as a "support" build, this is not going to be that effective at anything.

Re: Shadow Priestess Build: Finalized Chart

OK, so fair warning, you're basically a weaker caster cleric with very low hit points, fewer spells, and lower spell DCs, who is more vulnerable to dispel and will get steamrolled by anyone with True Seeing. Again, I'm not saying that to be mean. Skill Focus and Epic Skill Focus in Hide is probably ...

Re: Shadow Cleric Build

Well, that won't work as a priest of Vhaeraun because it would have to be lawful.

Re: Charisma Battlecleric

The only way to build cha cleric that will crawl to A- ranks in some party roles is to take PAL or BG due to saves/AC/Dam synergy for better gear management. Very basic build but somewhat close to what I used. Human 23 cleric, 4 paladin, 3 rogue 16str,8dex,14con,16wiz,14int,14cha 20str,8dex,14con,1...

Charisma Battlecleric

Edit: I'm moving this build here. As far as battleclerics go, I'm pretty satisfied with it. Anyone is welcome to use it. Race: Human Str 16 -> 20 Dex 8 Con 12 Wis 16 -> 19 Int - 14 Cha - 15 -> 16 While leveling up, assign 4 points to Str and 3 points to Wis. Domains: Travel, War (War is mandatory or...

Re: Shadow Cleric Build

I played a cleric of Vhaeraun. He was a strength-based 23/4/3 battlecleric wearing full plate with trickery and travel domains, both of which Vhaeraun gets in official lore, and single wielding a rapier (this was before moonblades). It's also worth noting that in FR lore, some of Vhaeraun's priests ...

An Alternative to Locking Threads

I notice a lot of threads getting locked lately when a minority of people on it start to be rude, even when the majority of people on it have been respectful. While I appreciate the moderators' efforts to keep the community friendly, this seems unfair to the people who are being civilized. Moreover,...

Cleric Path Suggestion: Shadow Priest

This would be a path that favors dexterity-based clerics, allowing for a wider variety of RP concepts. Restrictions: they lose Armor Proficiency (Heavy) and cannot gain it back. They must worship a deity with the "Trickery and Deception" aspect. Hit Die: d6 instead of d8 Primary Saves: Reflex, Will ...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

- Tone down barbarian and spellsword damage. - Tone down (or remove) spellsword dispel resistance. - Buff various cleric spells (e.g. searing light, fire storm) to make caster clerics more viable. Battleclerics have never been top tier, but have never been bad. I don't think a B-tier spot is a bad ...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

Yes, it's legal. It can be seen through with TS and breached with Mord's. Even if this is due to a bug, policing it would be impossible, as it would be impossible to establish that the player intended to exploit the bug given the chaotic and time-sensitive nature of PvP. It also doesn't work at all ...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

Aura of Vitality isn't all that special, at least once you get to higher levels and the +12 ability cap is easy to reach. It's better on cha-clerics. The concealment is nice, but becomes redundant once you and the people around you have UMD--especially since those level 5 and 6 spellslots are precio...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

I'm not against buffing casters, either, and I agree with you that the domains could use a looking at. I'm not backing off from the points about blerics just yet, though, because in order for them to be optimal (viable?) they need to select from a very limited range of domains that don't always refl...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

I find it ironic that we're both relying on Scurvy's point to defend opposite conclusions. With respect to the point that they are "okay, but not spectacular", they're lagging behind an increasingly large number of classes/builds that have become more powerful, while still being balanced against eac...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

I've maintained for a while now that cleric is only dominant in a meta where nobody knows wtf they're doing. That is, less and less, an apt description for Arelith. This is mostly people waking up to the fact that cleric is okay, but not spectacular. That latter point basically sums up my thoughts....

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

I don't see the point of nerfing vanilla clerics, let alone making a battlecleric path. If anything, that discourages people trying to build hybrid caster-meleers, which they might be more willing to do if the class got a tiny buff. And I don't think it's just spellswords that they could be brought ...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

OK. Well, since battleclerics are so fundamentally different from casters, and play a different role, consider my suggestion suitably modified to be a suggestion for battleclerics, to make them more on equal footing with some of the other melee builds. They just seem comparatively lackluster. They c...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

Make a new thread arguing that the melee classes should be nerfed more, then. And it's worth repeating that the recent changes have also included nerfs, so I'm not even sure there's been a trend towards balancing up, or, if there has, it has been to a reasonable degree.

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

Everyone being imbalanced doesn't mean things are balanced. Balance between parts of a whole is a relation between the parts. If the parts are appropriately related, they are balanced. In the context of video games, if the game is challenging, and if there are multiply viable ways to meet those cha...

Re: Clerics Need a Minor Buff

Apologies in advance for derailing OP's thread, but I think it's generally agreed that clerics are in a good place even if they do have some competition from spellswords. Reiterating what others have said now, the solution isn't to buff clerics. The solution is to tone down melee classes in general...

Re: Clerics Need a Buff

I would say clerics are actually pretty good AC wise--the standard bcleric can get 66, at least. I still agree that they could be more balanced with the other meleers, though. If my math is right, you'll only be able to reach 66 AC if you have Plant domain for Barkskin, an active Haste spell, and I...

Re: Clerics Need a Buff

Heck, forget GMW, simply allowing them to cast darkfire on any weapon would be enough, in my book, provided they can only cast it on themselves.
