Re: Hostile Interactions, Mass PvP, Transition Abuse and Bad Blood

I think the healthiest way to play this game is to go into it accepting that you are going to have some really bad experiences. Plenty of times I've had to just get on with it when another player takes liberties with the trust you give them, plenty of times players will attempt to straight up bully ...

Re: More Patience Needed

It's very rare that anyone will listen if someone from outside their playerbase suggests to them how they should be behaving IG, or OOC. This is why it's so important that prominent players in their respective groups stop focusing on what other playerbases are doing, or saying, and focus on trying t...

Re: Conflict and the surface.

Just posing this as a question, I am not necessarily suggesting it but-- What if we pulled back leadership powers some, so the topmost rulers of Cordor, Brog, the new city etc were NPCs and generally indifferent to our lowly PCs and only brought out by the DMs for the most very important story mome...

Re: Conflict and the surface.

It's entirely possible to have Conflict without PvP (I've done it in Cordor via political scheming, maneuvering and machinations, forcing people to react and oppose me in a fashion that allow for direct violent confrontation to be socially permissible.) It's also entirely possible to have PvP witho...

Re: Feedback on Election Shennanigans

I'm confused as to how the apparent answer to players logging in old characters they don't play just to vote for their OOC friends is to add fixed term limits. Punishing players that are dedicated to the position enough to stay longer makes very little sense to me as someone that held a settlement l...

PGCC Appearance Helper

It's a pretty minor problem, but when you ask to "Appearance Helper" in the PGCC to change your head style, it changes the head style of the Appearance Helper instead of your own character.

Harpy (Darkwing)

Bug with the Harpy (Darkwing (or Shadewing, can't remember)) that sometimes spawns in the Harpy nest at the Crystal caves. Today it summoned a "shade" which was nothing but a nameless, static, generic Dwarf with no name.

Re: Truth about high RPR! (from a single perspective)

the truth is that taking rpr seriously is a self-defeating activity Play. Have fun with other people. Absolutely, the RPR ratings are just guides on how to create healthy RP. If you do not have 40 RPR, that doesn't mean you're incapable of creating fantastic RP, and just because you're 40 RPR doesn...

Re: The Wangrod Defense

RPing with people is sometimes a really delicate balance, it is tough to disassociate ourselves with the characters we play, and it is easy to inadvertently trample on other character's stories to further that of your character's story - and it is easier still to willingly trample on another charact...

Re: Kudos form Starlock

My Dwarf always had a tense relationship with the Arcane Tower that never really boiled over, but never really cooled down either. Astra was a large part of it never boiling over and the character played a large part in the closing of a nearly 3 years story, and for that I am ever thankful.

Re: There is no reason to play evil on surface anymore

So obviously the original point of this thread is not true .. there is a place for evil on the surface, just like there is a place for good in the Underdark. Subtlety is usually the best way to achieve a decent story when you're attempting to commit acts of evil in good lands, or acts of good in evi...

Re: How to be Really Good at Being Really Bad

My advice to bad aligned players and good aligned players is exactly the same .. 1) Bad guys need to take good guys seriously. Good guys need to take bad guy seriously. 2) Understand that the best way for bad players to achieve gravitas is with the help of willing good players, and that the best way...

A real pleasure spending so much time with Eirik. He played a pivotal part of Brogendenstein for the last few IG years, and a stability to Darrowdeep that provided a foundation for some fantastic RP.

Re: The roleplaying (or not) of low mental attributes?

I think it's fairly obvious that about 90% (that's a conservative estimate) of all players will have a build they consider powerbuilding. Which is why I think it is less a problem with adhering to character sheets or not, and more a problem of a stigma between two players based upon how their charac...

Re: The roleplaying (or not) of low mental attributes?

Not every genius is good at expressing themselves, and not every idiot is a bumbling, drooling mess. Obviously there will never be a point where everyone is told to RP their character sheet or else, so probably the best way to approach the matter is by enlightening people on just how fun it can be t...

I think it would be a good idea to see tutorials about how to go about creating assets like the ones people have been referencing (Character models, texture packs, etc ..) here, so that there could potentially grow a community lead project for future Haks used.

Some of the clothing haks are really great, but some .. not so much. My only hope is that there is some restraint in the designs that are chosen to be added to Arelith so that nothing seems grossly out of place.
