Re: Timestop Change
If we don't revert the TS change, healing needs to be altered for sure. However, then we need to alter things like, and not limited to, warlocks. A warlock can output more consistent damage than a mage. They will be buffed by reduction in healing. Then there's damage output of melee'ers, espescially...

Re: Timestop Change
Wizard/Sorceror dynamic hasn't changed. (Relatively speaking sorceror has got slightly better than wiz because they don't need to take TS now and have a free spell choice - and they were better anyway). They both have the same very reduced nuke. A sorc outputs damage at the same rate as a wizard, ju...

Re: Timestop Change
Hexgoblin's post I agree with a lot of that. Also I'd like to make it clear that the removal of timestop isn't necessarily a bad thing - if there are significant changes across almost everything to pair with it. However, I don't think these have been thought out or identified. If the update was "Ti...

Re: Timestop Change
And yet these are both false. No one designed or balanced them to be this way, it is a symptom of the real problem, which is that most spells don't work either because of immunities or because saves in Arelith are bloated. Many cookies, many spells have been added to mage's arsenal over the years, ...

Re: Timestop Change
This however is a prime example of an objectively bad change. Just out of interest, what's the objective element to the argument? I do think most of your points and the others raised here on both sides are pretty strong but they do all seem to be subjective and/or anecdotal. In a way that is not in...

Re: Timestop Change
Below 50% health, we both agree how strong it is. Above 50% health, there are a lot of chance to fish 1 rolls and combine it with ice imbue to delete the chance of enemy to run away. For clearing the effect, enemy still must spend one round. So, on top of 140 damage you just got in timestop, you st...

Re: Timestop Change
I don't think, for 9 seconds, eating every kind of debuff on yourself, getting a lot of damage by magic spells is something balanced. And -pray shouldn't be counter argument for this. Mages have been balanced around that. I am not even telling what 11APR Spellmonks with truestrike can do in that 9 ...

Re: Timestop Change
I've already argued this change with devs in discord. Made many valid points that many mechanically savvy people agreed with. Was met with "well I don't like time stop." Gsanc is next. Check it. Can't argue with that. I'm sure the internal discussion was much more in depth though, we'll have to wai...

My mistake! I thought it was Silvard that had it originally.
Hopefully we can get some good feedback on it.

IIRC the original dev didn't go through with it because of feedback?
Still it would be lovely to see what went into this.

Re: Timestop Change
However, if the whole viability of mages rests on a single level 9 spell, then this shows that not only the spell was likely too strong but also that the real issue is elsewhere, and that is another topic. This is flawed. It would be terrible to lose IGMS or Mords as well. It's an integral part of ...

Re: Timestop Change
This was actually a good change and fixes a spell that in a Roleplay Server, is very unbalanced and could be used to un-comparably effect the outcome of PVP. TimeStop and its effects, while casting with other delayed action spells was way too powerful, and resulted in unfair combat scenarios that e...

Timestop Change
I'd like to preface this by ensuring the developer that they are a great person, whomever they are. This however is a prime example of an objectively bad change. Were mages considered overpowered? Why? This is an incredible nerf to a rather mediocre class, and periphery mediocre classes (spellsword,...

Re: Basic Respect
I don't think anyone wants Arelith to die, or anyone is malicious in their posting. We're all here for the same reason, to improve the game we play. It's a problem that this is even thought of as an issue. I'm a big proponent with mechanics, which can often come across as rude, because the vast majo...

Re: Who watches the watchmen?
Maybe for a level 1 commoner. PC's are far beyond that. PCs are beyond that if they actually have ranks in Bluff. Otherwise they are exactly like commoners in that regard. PCs are not better at sneaking than a commoner if they both have 0 ranks in hide and move silently. This is exactly right. A PC...

Re: Who watches the watchmen?
It's a stealth buff, which was not needed. More importantly it takes agency away from players and how their PC's react in situations. (Are we going to go down the dark path of dice checks for persuade and strength grappling etc. I don't really want someone/something playing my PC for me) It doesn't ...

Re: Forest of Despair
The real trick is to spend no time in the forest.
Head to the mound / quagmires, or into the Malarite temple instead. You won't suffer because you're summon reliant there.

Same type damage doesn't stack, you'll use the highest average damage die I believe.

Do we know if we're going back to how it was and not the problematic way some people thought it was?

Re: PVE Dispel too often // Lv28 Mundane Char
The function's hardcoded in "EffectDispelMagicBest" iirc, so you need to write a new one. As caster levels / character levels are borked you need to store and check the dispel CL for each effect. It used to be quite a challenge to create a completely custom dispel system but with the new effect tagg...

Re: Cleric Skill Points
Increasing SP's just lends power creep disproportionately to low skill point classes.
(Look at ranger, certainly never needed an extra 2 SP's)
Nothing needs it. Take more int.
